The emotional problems of adolescents have attracted the attention of scholars in various fields, and cognitive reassessment strategies as effective emotion regulation strategies have always been popular in psychological research. In recent years, some researchers have paid attention to the important role of creativity in cognitive reassessment, but these findings not only need to be repeatedly verified, but most of the studies selected healthy college students, and the research subjects were relatively limited. Therefore,in this study,we intend to further explore the regulatory effect of creative cognitive reassessment on negative emotions in depressed adolescents on the basis of verifying the results of previous studies. In Study 1,We examined the correlation between the creativity of cognitive reassessment and the effectiveness of adolescents in regulating negative emotions. The study selected middle school students, asked participants to watch negative emotional pictures and use cognitive reassessment strategies to regulate emotions, and then participants were asked to evaluate the creativity of spontaneously generated cognitive reassessment ideas and the effectiveness of regulating negative emotions. Finally, several psychology graduate students were invited to evaluate the creative level of the cognitive reassessment strategies spontaneously generated by the participants(nine-point scale score),and the internal consistency coefficient was 0.98.The results show that the self-rated creativity and other evaluation creativity of cognitive reassessment are significantly positively correlated with the effectiveness of emotion regulation. In Study 2,We examined the influence of cognitive reappraisal creativity on the effect of emotional regulation in depressed adolescents. This study used a mixed experimental design of 2(participant type:depressed group, normal group)×3(cognitive reassessment creative level:high creative cognitive reassessment, low creative cognitive reassessment, objective description),in which the participant type was the interparticipant variable and the cognitive reassessment creativity level was the internal variable of the participant.Based on the findings of Study 1,only a few participants’ cognitive reappraisal ideas were assessed as highly creative by those with expertise in emotion regulation strategies. Therefore,in Study 2,cognitive reappraisal strategies were prepared in advance for the emotional stimulus pictures, and the differences in emotion regulation effects between the two groups of subjects were compared by presenting them with different creative levels of cognitive reappraisal strategies. The results showed that in terms of subjective emotional feelings, whether in the depressed group or the normal group, the effectiveness of high creative cognitive reassessment and low creative cognitive reassessment in regulating emotions was significantly better than that of objective description, and the effect of emotional regulation of high creative cognitive reassessment was better than that of low creative cognitive reassessment. In the induction period, the negative emotional experience of the depression group was significantly higher than that of the normal group, but there was no significant difference in emotional experience between the two groups during the regulatory period. The results of the two studies show that cognitive reassessment is effective in regulating negative emotions in depressed adolescents, and the creativity of reassessment is one of the key variables affecting the regulation effect. This study can provide reliable material for studies related to emotion regulation in adolescents, provide a basis for the effectiveness of creative cognitive reassessment in regulating emotions, and also provide a new emotion regulation strategy for depressed adolescents.
