| In 2021,General Secretary Xi Jinping mentioned the need to unite the strength of the Chinese and African people and promote the building of a new era of China-Africa community of destiny.Since the 1990 s,the "Made in China" exported to foreign countries has attracted a large number of African merchants who came to Guangzhou to seek gold,this has triggered a wave of "Non-second-generation" children born in Africa or Guangzhou,aged between 6 and 14,who live with their parents or other legal guardians in Guangzhou.American psychologist Dweck divides people’s thinking patterns into two types: fixed type and growth type.The growth mindset is essential for enhancing motivation,cross-cultural adaptation,self-efficacy,and psychological resilience,and is helpful for "non-second generation" children in Guangzhou to overcome and alleviate their learning and cross-cultural adaptation difficulties due to the lack of educational opportunities and the impact of both the home culture and Chinese culture.This study takes "non second generation" children in Guangzhou as the research object.Through questionnaire distribution,field observation,and in-depth interviews with 14 "non second generation" children in Guangzhou,we understand the development status and level of growth mindset among "non second generation" children in Guangzhou.The study found that the growth mindset level of "non second generation" children in Guangzhou needs to be improved.Non second generation children in Sui have unclear intellectual cognition and rely on external motivation for learning;Believing that culture is immutable and has weak cross-cultural adaptability;Curious about challenges,but willing to refuse for fear of failure;Unwilling to accept criticism from others,unwilling to acknowledge the excellence of others;Lack of clear understanding of effort and lack of perseverance in doing things.Through the analysis of the influencing factors of the growth mindset of the "non second generation" children in Guangzhou,we can find that there are certain deficiencies in the individual,family,school,peer group,etc.of the "non second generation" children in Guangzhou,which are specifically manifested in the low sense of self-efficacy and bias in self attribution;Parents hold the view that "failure hinders growth" and their parenting styles are authoritarian;Learning is limited by the learning content and learning environment;There is bias among peer groups;There are cultural differences between China and Africa,and it is difficult for "non second generation" children in Guangzhou to cope with culture shock.On the platform of A social work organization,based on the values and methods of social work,this study focuses on the application of group work in the cultivation and promotion of growth-oriented mindset of non-second-generation children in Guangzhou.According to the needs of different dimensions of the growth-oriented mindset of the "non-second generation" children in Guangzhou,the group activities were developed to meet the needs of the "non-second generation" children in Guangzhou in terms of intelligence,brain,culture,criticism,failure and success,and to improve the "non-second generation" children in Guangzhou in terms of their cognitive needs.The activities were designed to meet the needs of "non-generation" children in Guangzhou in terms of their perceptions of intelligence,brain,culture,criticism,failure and success,and to improve their coping skills in the face of criticism,success and failure.The effectiveness of the group work in improving the growth mindset of the "non-second-generation" children in Guangzhou was tested by evaluating the effectiveness of the group work.Finally,a summary and reflection of the group work is presented. |
