| No one can teach students the skill of mathematical modeling, which is acquired during the learning process. The "2017 National High School Mathematics Curriculum Standard" having included mathematical modeling as one of its six core qualities,a surge of research on the subject has swept through China, with extensive discourse on how to nurture high school students’ mathematical modeling aptitudes. The teaching of regression equations in high school should focus on the process by which students acquire the regression equation model, rather than the mathematical computational problems in application question modes. To better study the case-based teaching of regression equations in the context of modeling, after reviewing the literature on high school mathematical modeling teaching, the author recruited 100 high school students to conduct a survey of the status of regression equation learning and mathematical modeling ability testing. The study finds that students have a high level of regression equation learning, and can solve regression equations according to different problem conditions. However, students do not understand the complete process of building the regression equation model, and lack the overall awareness and ability of mathematical modeling. In response to this actual background, the author implements case-based teaching and reflection on regression equations in the "Linear Correlation of Two Variables" section of the People’s Education Press(Version A)Required Textbook 3,using regression equation cases centered on modeling to teach students problem-solving skills.Through the significant difference in test scores before and after the teaching,it is found that using examples for regression teaching can not only improve the teaching effect of regression equations but also contribute to the cultivation of students’ mathematical modeling skills. This article has studied three different regression equation case selections, which come from textbook contents, college entrance examination questions, and real-life situations.Currently,it is difficult to implement the skill of mathematical modeling in high school mathematics classrooms in border counties.Based on the research conclusions, the author proposes feasible teaching strategies and suggestions from the two dimensions of teacher teaching and student learning.Offering helpful references and advice to front-line educators confronting "common predicaments" in instructing math modeling, this is also of great value. |
