A Study On The Content Characteristics Of "Scientific Inquiry And Practical Ability" In American Chemistry Textbook ChemCom

With the introduction of "scientific inquiry and practice ability",this paper studies the characteristics of "scientific inquiry and practice ability" in the American chemistry textbook Chemistry in the Community(ChemCom),which provides some inspirations for the compilation of the middle school chemistry textbooks.First of all,based on literature research and the characteristics of ChemCom textbooks,an analytical framework for studying the content features of "scientific inquiry and practical ability" in ChemCom textbooks is set up.The "scientific inquiry and practical ability" is divided into five dimensions: "experimental inquiry ability","ability to acquire and process information","ability to make models and works","ability to participate in social investigation" and "ability to interact and cooperate",and the detailed indicators and operational definitions of each dimension are specified.Secondly,the analysis framework is used to encode and count the contents of "scientific inquiry and practical ability" in ChemCom textbooks,and the statistical results are used to describe the content features of "scientific inquiry and practical ability" in ChemCom textbooks,and the corresponding cases are combined to conduct a detailed analysis of the research results.Research shows that :(1)Experiments in ChemCom textbooks are mainly concentrated in the column of "Investigating Matter",which has a complete experimental inquiry process,progressive experimental skills,rich knowledge and situation,scientific method,data processing and program design guidance,and pays attention to guiding students to reflect on experimental design and operation.(2)The embodiment and implementation of "information competence" in ChemCom textbooks is very comprehensive.There are various ways for students to obtain information,and the different categories of information they acquire have comprehensive effects."Information processing" focuses on the acquisition of basic knowledge and skills,and the results of information processing will support follow-up activities.ChemCom textbooks have a strong sense of "evidence" and pay attention to guiding students to examine and judge information in an all-round way.(3)The ChemCom textbooks focus on the writing of "reports" to improve students’ ability to research,screen and process information as well as their language skills.Other forms of work will also promote the development of students’ various talents.The four models carry different teaching functions and play a very important role in students’ understanding of chemical language,material microstructure,the essential law of things,as well as matter and its changes.The manipulation of the model will deepen the student’s understanding of the model itself and the archetype to which the model corresponds.(4)The social survey questions required in ChemCom textbooks are of various types,reflecting the characteristics of the discipline,history and frontier,while closely related to social life.Thinking activities on these problems will help students construct and perfect knowledge,improve the ability to resolve problems and make decisions.Taking practical actions on these issues will help students to understand the real situation of things and gain a sense of responsibility and pride in participating in social life.(5)The ChemCom textbooks focus on the interaction between teachers and students.Teachers play a certain role in approving students’ plans,providing material and information resources,and cultivating experimental habits.Teachers play a leading role while giving full play to students’ subjectivity.The ChemCom textbooks focus on communication and cooperation among students,which is very meaningful for students to adapt to the future social life.
