Traditional mathematics education emphasizes ’Two Basics’ mathematics teaching, flexible exercises teaching and believes in ’Practice makes perfect’.Students perform well in mathematical achievement, numeracy and test-taking skills, but behave badly in application skills,hands-on practice and interdisciplinary literacy. In order to meet the demands of the new era for mathematics professionals as well as for mathematics general education, the classroom must be reconfigured so that students are given educational opportunities to understand mathematics. As mathematical understanding focuses on the learning strategies of learners,it is essential to explore what learning strategies are available and how effective these strategies are in teaching and learning. This research attempts to investigate the impact of mathematics comprehensive homework on students’ mathematical understanding and academic performance in the short term.In the research, the questionnaire about mathematics understanding and comprehensive assignments are used as research tools and ’function learning’ as the research topic.Using data collected through questionnaires and interviews, the research aims to answer the following two research questions:(1)What is the current state of students’ comprehension-based learning in mathematics in senior secondary schools?(2)What are the changes in students’ academic performance in mathematics and their level of mathematical comprehension learning after the implementation of comprehension assignments in mathematics? The results of the research showed that(1)The level of mathematical comprehension learning of the students was high and the use of the strategy of constructing a knowledge network and error correction was low.(2)There was a positive correlation between mathematics performance and the level of mathematical comprehension learning and the higher the difficulty factor of the math exam, the higher the correlation.(3)There was no significant change in the level of mathematical comprehension learning of the students after the implementation of the mathematical comprehension homework. The level of mathematics comprehension learning in the experimental class was higher than the level of mathematics comprehension learning in the parallel class.(4)The level of completion of mathematics comprehension homework had an impact on the variation in students’ examination results, with students whose completion level was in the middle group showing the most significant improvement and those whose completion level was in the lowest group showing the least improvement.(5)Students’ attitudes and interests towards mathematics comprehension homework showed a trend of polarization.Based on the above findings, this paper offers some suggestions for school curricula and teachers’ teaching,as well as reflections and perspectives on the research. |
