A Study On The Current Situation And Cultivation Of College Students’ Public Awareness

College students are the most active and energetic young generation in China and they bear the important task of promoting the construction and development of Chinese socialism.As the backbone of the country’s future,college students are one of China’s most valuable human resources.Effective measures must be taken to raise their level of public awareness in order to promote the prosperity and revitalization of nation,people’s happiness and advance China’s development and governance in the future.Public consciousness stems from the public sphere and is a kind of normative consciousness that people have in the public sphere.Public consciousness is a basic quality of modern citizenship in a society where the concepts of public and privacy are relatively distinct,which is manifested in the active participation of subjects in the public life of the society and the observance,maintenance and construction of public interests such as public rules and norms and is an indispensable and important condition for the development and normal operation of the society.With the continuous expansion of the field of public life,citizens gradually participate in public things and life.Based on the background of contemporary socialism with Chinese characteristics,this study explores the current situation and cultivation strategies of public awareness among modern college students,taking Shanghai college students as an example.The researcher analyzes the traditional Chinese concepts of "public" and "privacy" and clarifies the development of "public" and "privacy" in China,which is important for deepening the understanding of "public" and "privacy".It is important to deepen the understanding of "public" and provide a theoretical basis for this study.Based on the definition of public consciousness and literature review,the researcher divides public consciousness into four dimensions: public responsibility consciousness,public participation consciousness,public environment consciousness,and public order and normative consciousness,and construct a framework for the current situation of public consciousness among college students.In addition,interviews were conducted to understand the experiences of individuals and their interpretations and evaluations of these experiences,which are used to better answer and explain the questions raised in this study,to explore the current situation of public awareness among contemporary college students,and to provide a realistic reference for the cultivation path of public awareness among college students.The results show that the current situation of public awareness among college students in China is in the middle to upper level overall,but the level of public responsibility awareness is the lowest.The study finds that the problems of public awareness faced by college students are mainly the following: Firstly,college students do not have a good understanding of the concept of public awareness;Secondly,there is a disconnect between college students’ public awareness and their behavior;Thirdly,the overall public responsibility awareness of college students is relatively weak and needs to be strengthened.In addition,the study finds that there is no significant difference between the current situation of public awareness among college students in China and variables such as gender,grade,political affiliation,place of birth,experience as student leaders,and experience as only child,but there is a significant difference in the way of family upbringing.In terms of influencing factors,all five aspects-social climate,college education,network management,family education,and own factors-have a significant impact on the level of public awareness among college students.Finally,based on the empirical evidence and interview results,this study proposes a realistic path to cultivate the level of public awareness among college students.At the level of national society,we should strengthen the guidance of core values and guide students to establish correct public and private views;At the level of colleges,we should put the mechanism of moral education into practice,create a good campus environment and offer professional ethics courses;At the level of networks,we should strengthen network regulation and improve the long-term cultivation mechanism;At the level of families,we should improve parents’ public awareness and enrich education and cultivation methods;At the level of individuals,we should unite knowledge and action to improve public awareness,enhance self-awareness,raise the level of public awareness and strengthen self-cognitive ability.
