| The academic master’s students are an important part of academic talent cultivation in China and occupy a pivotal and important position. However,at present, the level of academic aspiration of academic master’s students in China is generally low,and academic master’s students lack love for professional learning, which seriously hinders the improvement of the quality of academic talent cultivation in China.Paying attention to the cultivation of academic aspiration of academic master students and effectively motivating them to focus on academics and love academics from the source is an important means to effectively enhance the academic ability of academic master students and promote their overall development.Considering that the Mentoring System is the basic model of postgraduate training in China and profoundly affects the growth of academic talents, this study uses social support theory and self-efficacy theory as the theoretical basis, and adopts a combination of theoretical analysis and empirical research to explore the influence of mentor support on academic master’s students’ academic aspirations and its mechanism of action. This study first clarifies the connotation of related concepts and the current status of research by using literature research method, and on this basis, the research hypothesis and research model are proposed and constructed. Then,a questionnaire was designed with a problem-oriented approach, and 504 valid questionnaires were collected and collated from academic master’s students studying at J University as the respondents.Supported by data, this study analyzed the sample data with the help of SPSS27.0 and AMOS25.0 data analysis software.First, descriptive statistics were used to analyze mentor support and each sub-dimension and academic aspirations and each sub-dimension;second,independent samples t-test and ANOVA were used to analyze the differences in the evaluation of perceived academic aspirations of academic master’s students with different gender, grade, major type, undergraduate college level, enrollment mode, and family background, respectively; Finally, the researcher used regression analysis, mediating effects test, and structural equation modeling to explore the interactions and mechanisms among mentor support, research efficacy, and academic aspirations.Based on the empirical study, this study concludes the following: first, the overall level of academic master’s students’ perceived mentor support is good, but it does not better meet students’ needs in terms of research funding and materials in terms of academic support;second, the level of academic aspirations of academic master’s students is low,and the mean scores of the three dimensions of academic identity, academic effort and academic aspiration show a tendency to decrease in sequence.Third,in the test of variance, except for grade and annual family income, there were no statistically significant differences in academic aspirations for other demographic variables, which indicated that the overall influence of demographic variables on academic aspirations of academic master’s students was small;Fourth, mentor support could both directly improve academic aspirations of academic master’s students and indirectly improve the academic aspirations of this group through improving research efficacy.Based on the above findings, this study proposes the following suggestions to mentors and graduate training units from the perspective of stimulating academic master’s students’ academic aspirations and focusing on improving the quality of academic talent cultivation in China:(1)increasing the support for academic master’s students and improve the effectiveness and relevance of mentor support;(2)strengthening publicity and guidance to encourage academic master’s students to establish academic ideals;(3)enhancing academic master’s students’ sense of research efficacy and stimulating the endogenous motivation of them in academic research. |
