A Study On Teaching High School Essay Writing Under The Perspective Of Critical Thinking

The essay writing is a logical reasoning process in the form of analysis,argumentation,judgment,and evaluation,which is centered on reasoning and requires the writer to get rid of personal subjective bias and envision various possibilities to approach the truth.To a certain extent,the level of argumentative essay writing reflects the level of students’ existing cognitive and thinking development,and even the level of civic literacy,thus attracting attention from all over the world.However,in the actual writing process of our high school students,there are many who are logically confused,lack of reasoning,self-talking,and acting by emotion,and few who are logically clear,tightly argued,contending with multiple ideas,and convincing by reasoning,from small word combinations to large chapter constructions,all of which reveal that students’ argumentative essay writing is full of drawbacks.Critical thinking is characterized by pluralism,rationality,self-reflection,independence,and impartiality,pointing to a rational reasoning process under the questioning of truth,impartial self-reflection,and openness,and essay writing not only includes elements of analysis and judgment at the cognitive level,but also tends to be consistent at the operational level,ultimately pointing to "rational thinking and judgment " This indicates that the two have some kind of "isomorphic relationship",which should be complementary,symbiotic and mutually beneficial.In the critical thinking perspective of the high school essay writing teaching,it is not difficult to find in the students’ essays,in addition to the traditional essay in the three elements of the problem,such as the argument of ambiguity and ambiguity,the argument of the lack of persuasive power and lack of argument,the use of inappropriate and single method of argument,etc.,the absence of the main body of writing and the phenomenon of a defensive flavor also deserves special attention,the above four problems are related to critical thinking in high school essay writing These four problems are all related to the lack of critical thinking in high school essay writing.The introduction of critical thinking into the teaching of high school essay writing can be done in the following ways: firstly,critical thinking is used to examine the subject and argument,to promote the positioning of the writing subject,so that students can clarify their arguments in the process of constant examination and falsification;secondly,critical thinking is used to identify arguments,to build a resourceful material base,and to fill the gaps of missing arguments;again,critical thinking is used to build the argumentative structure of the essay Finally,the students’ ability to revise and evaluate the argumentative essays by themselves is developed through the provision of a critical writing self-assessment form.The implementation of the above measures will undoubtedly improve the current situation of teaching argumentative essay writing in high school and make it an important way for students to express their reason and thoughts.Exploring the meaning and feasible measures of teaching high school argumentative essay writing under the perspective of critical thinking can not only help students’ argumentative essay writing move from appealing to emotion to prudent judgment and deep deliberation,but also help build a new system of teaching argumentative essay writing with reasoning training as the core,and provide theoretical guidance and practical help for front-line high school language teachers.
