As the new curriculum reform progresses,the concept of student-centred teaching gradually permeates into practical teaching and the Language Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)places emphasis on learning activities.As a vehicle for the content of fiction teaching,fiction learning activities are an important part of fiction teaching design and affect the effectiveness of fiction teaching.However,teachers today do not pay much attention to the design of learning activities for novels and generally do not have an in-depth understanding of the design of learning activities for novels.In order to improve the current situation of novel learning activity design,this study uses literature analysis,questionnaires and experimental methods to optimise the structure of novel classroom teaching using learning activity theory as a guide,and to achieve a change in teachers’ and students’ conceptions of novel "teaching" and "learning".This article firstly compares selected novels in the unified middle school language textbooks,analyses their characteristics and understands the current situation of novel teaching by means of a questionnaire survey.Secondly,the theoretical basis for the design of novel learning activities is explored from the perspectives of curriculum standards,language learning activities,novel genre characteristics and learning situation analysis.The six types of novel learning activities are categorised by learning place,learning goal,learning content,developmental ability,activity form and participation mode,etc.The novel learning activity process of "activity analysis-activity design-activity implementation-activity evaluation" is then constructed,and the focus of novel learning activities at each grade level is analysed.Then,based on the current situation of novel teaching,four major strategies for novel learning activity design are proposed: attach importance to activity analysis and explore rich activity resources comprehensively;improve activity design and determine effective activity objectives and content;pre-design activity implementation and practise democratic forms of interaction between the two sides;focus on activity evaluation and provide timely and effective activity feedback.Finally,we designed and implemented a learning activity on "Social Theatre" in the internship school based on the novel learning activity process and strategies,and analysed and reflected on the results of the implementation.The results of this exercise demonstrate that novel learning activity processes and strategies can provide teachers with clearer and more specific ideas for designing learning activities,ensuring student agency while more effectively utilising students’ initiative,and thus effectively improving the efficiency of novel teaching.
