In the wave of basic education reform in China in the 21st century,the new curriculum revised in 2022 emphasises the need for schools to make significant changes in curriculum and teaching,to focus on teaching reform and to pay attention to the transformation of teaching models.It is therefore urgent that educators pay attention to educational hotspots,keep pace with the knowledge economy and explore new practices for implementing core language literacy,with unit teaching reappearing on the language teaching scene in a new guise as a large unit.In addition to emphasising character,citizenship,collaboration and communication,deep learning places greater emphasis on the development of students’ critical and creative thinking.The connotation has shifted from the 4Cs of the past to the refinement of the 6Cs,making deep learning an inevitable trend in international educational development.This is the first study of cross-unit and cross-grade integrated news texts,including news commentaries,news stories and character newsletters,and considers the combination of the "deep" pursuit of deep learning and the "big" framework of large-unit teaching to promote the implementation of core language literacy.The text consists of an introduction,a text and a conclusion,and focuses on the following aspects:The first part clarifies the purpose and value of the study from the reason for choosing the topic.By combing through the literature on the connotation,characteristics and strategies of deep learning as well as the evolution of unit teaching,the connotation characteristics of large units and other literature,we understand the shortcomings of existing research and gain insights from it,and pay attention to the directions in the design of teaching and development of strategies.The second part is an overview that summarises the central concepts in terms of identifying a number of concepts such as deep learning and shallow learning,and large units and units.On the basis of a clear definition of the concepts,several models of large-unit teaching summarised in the literature are combined to classify large-unit expressions into those based on textbooks and those based on lived experience.The design of a large unit of teaching based on deep learning in high school language journalism chooses the large unit form based on life experience,and explains the research value of deep learning in large units and the value of teaching large units of journalism.The third and fourth sections are an analysis of the principles of large-unit instructional design and journalism instructional investigation based on deep learning.The principles include goal-oriented,integrative,generative and quantitative principles,and a rubric to guide the practice and analysis of the current survey.Current problems in language journalism teaching are identified in the survey from questionnaire design and analysis,and teacher interviews.The fifth section draws on the current situation survey and literature review to explore the designed teaching strategies from the knowledge,teaching and learning perspectives and brain science levels respectively.The teaching strategies for the large unit on journalism should be strategies that reflect practicality and link to life,and therefore focus on the knowledge of genre in the knowledge view.At the same time to achieve deep learning and to take into account the new curriculum’s emphasis on layered design,therefore in the pedagogical view there is an emphasis on conceptual networks with overlapping difficulties,etc.The sixth part is a large unit of teaching design,teaching record and teaching reflection based on deep learning.The teaching objectives are established at the levels of the new curriculum,the learning situation and deep learning,integrating the five textbooks of the senior secondary language,selecting news texts and taking "exploring craftsmanship" as the theme to achieve the ability to recognise a variety of news genres and to write news commentaries.This paper hopes to provide language teachers with concrete ideas and solutions for teaching journalism in the design and practice of large units,and to promote the optimisation of education and teaching.
