The Programme for International Student Assessment(PISA)is an international student assessment project initiated by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development(OECD),which tests the capability of students who are about to graduate from junior middle school in reading,mathematics and science.In 2018,PISA updated the meaning of reading literacy,making it more in line with the needs of practical development,and proposed a systematic framework of reading strategies,which has great implications for reading teaching.Under the background of contemporary education reform,whole book reading has become a hot topic in the study of Chinese education.,Curriculum Standards for Ordinary High School Chinese(2017 Edition,2020 revision)takes "the whole book reading and discussion" as the primary learning task group and runs it through the entire high school study.This shows the importance of whole book reading in contemporary reading teaching.However,due to the limitation of traditional teaching methods and the characteristics of whole book reading itself and school’s lack of experience in the whole book reading course,there are still many difficulties in the teaching of whole book reading.Based on this situation,this paper conducts an indepth study on PISA and whole book reading,and finds that the two are consistent in the connotation of reading literacy,students’ subjective consciousness and the concept of lifelong learning.It believes that PISA can bring beneficial reference for the teaching of whole book reading.Through the investigation and analysis of the current situation of whole book reading in high schools in two different prefecture level cities,the existing problems of whole book reading in high schools are found.Taking the whole book reading teaching of The Rural China as an example,this paper actively explores specific ways of applying PISA2018 reading strategy framework to the whole book reading teaching in Chinese high schools.In addition,inspired by PISA2018,I designed the teaching design of whole book reading of The Rural China,hoping to bring enlightenment to front line Chinese teachers on the teaching of whole book reading for senior high schools.
