Fei Xiaotong’s Rural China is a highly rich and localized sociological work,which has been selected as a required reading material for the fifth unit "Whole Book Reading" in the Chinese language textbook of the compiled edition of the Ministry of Education for senior middle schools.This dissertation employs literature research,questionnaire surveys,case studies,and graphical presentation as its primary methods.It adopts a research approach centered around "why to guide","what to guide",and "how to guide",with the hierarchical theory of reading and critical thinking teaching as its basic guidance.With the original work’s critical thinking teaching guidance as its fundamental content,this dissertation comprehensively discusses the guiding significance,content,and strategies of whole book reading and critical thinking teaching for Rural China from a teaching guidance perspective.The aim is to construct a knowledge system for teaching guidance in the whole book reading and critical thinking teaching of Rural China.This dissertation consists of five parts,with the second to fourth parts being the main body and core sections.The first part is the introduction,which primarily introduces the origin of the study and defines the concepts of "critical thinking","critical thinking teaching",and "whole book reading".It then elaborates on the current research status from three aspects: whole book reading in senior middle schools,whole book reading and critical thinking teaching,and whole book reading of Rural China.Finally,it briefly introduces the research content,methods,and significance.The second part explains the necessity of guiding whole book reading and critical thinking teaching for Rural China,discussing from the perspectives of curriculum standards,practical teaching,and cultural introspection.The third part elucidates the guiding content of whole book reading and critical thinking teaching for Rural China.Based on the explicit requirement of "structuring the accumulated language materials and acquired Chinese language knowledge" in the senior middle school curriculum standards,the content is analyzed from shallow,intermediate,and deep levels,constructing a knowledge system for guiding whole book reading and critical thinking teaching of Rural China,to help students acquire basic theoretical knowledge,verbal practice knowledge,and tacit knowledge.The fourth part clarifies the guiding strategies for whole book reading and critical thinking teaching of Rural China.Based on the characterization of the depth and breadth of Chinese language knowledge and following the cognitive law from easy to difficult and gradual progression,this section proposes guiding strategies that match the knowledge system of whole book reading and critical thinking teaching for Rural China.Teachers employ the "comprehension reading → analytical reading → critical reading" method to guide students in shallow,intermediate,and deep reading and critical thinking,helping them perceive the text,logic,and ideas,and cultivating different levels of reading and critical thinking abilities,such as summarizing,analyzing,applying,questioning,reflecting,criticizing,and others.The fifth part is the conclusion,presenting the basic framework and logical thinking of the whole dissertation in a matrix diagram format and summarizing the entire dissertation.
