Research On The Republic Of China Educator’s Sports View Who Had Studied In The United States

The Republic of China was a significant historical period in the course of which China gradually transformed from feudal society to modern society.In the course of this period,a group of educators who had studied abroad in the United States were represented by Tao Xingzhi,Chen Heqin,Zhang Boling,Mei Yiqi,and others.This group,as the backbone of the early modernization of modern Chinese education,has gradually formed a relatively complete and systematic system of sports concepts in long-term education and teaching practices.The sports concept has an important impact on the development of modern Chinese sports in both the level of sports theory and physical education.This article takes the group of educators’ sports view who studied in the United States as the research object and uses research methods such as literature,historical research,logical analysis,and comprehensive induction to review,sort out,and summarize relevant works and literature materials on the group’s sports view of educationists studied in the United States during the Republic of China.It is believed that the main content of the group sports view is concentrated in four aspects:(1)In terms of understanding the purpose and function of sports,this group has associated the purpose and function of sports with human development,national survival and decline,and the rise and fall of the country from an educational perspective,laying the foundation for the early understanding of Chinese sports concepts.(2)In terms of physical education,this group practices the educational concept of emphasizing both moral,intellectual,and physical education;Advocating the guiding ideology of "health first" in physical education;Clarifying the physical education method of combining exercise,hygiene,and maintenance;Emphasizing that sports teachers and sports facilities are essential conditions for the development of physical education;Emphasize the popularization and development of physical education.(3)In terms of sports culture,this group advocates that the development of sports culture should be based on the reality of China,inherit and carry forward the excellent traditional sports culture of China,,and actively learn from and absorb advanced foreign sports cultural achievements,to integrate them into the development of domestic sports culture.(4)In terms of competitive sports,this group believes that the primary significance lies in strengthening physical fitness,promoting aesthetics,and cultivating moral qualities through sports competitions.Moreover,competitive sports can effectively stimulate the enthusiasm of citizens to participate in sports,which to some extent,helps to promote the popularization and development of sports.Through research,this group’s sports view has four distinct characteristics:(1)the national salvation of "strengthening the nation and rejuvenating the country";(2)The educational nature of "cultivating morality in the body and achieving all-round development";(3)The inclusiveness of "mixing the old and the new,integrating the Chinese and the Western";(4)The practicality of "unity of knowledge and action,emphasis on practice".In China at that time,the group’s view of sports mainly had four historical achievements: first,it affirmed the important position of sports in education;The second is to promote the formation of national awareness of physical health;Third,it catalyzed the integration and development of Chinese and Western sports culture;Fourth,it promoted the development of modern Chinese sports.In addition,from a dialectical perspective,the group of sports view discovered that its existence of insufficient understanding of competitive sports is not comprehensive.Some of the contents of the group’s sports view who studied in the United States still have positive reference significance for the innovation and development of contemporary Chinese sports until now.By studying the group’s sports view and their practice,we can obtain four inspirations:(1)Contemporary sports disciplines’ construction should not only attach importance to the research of the sports’ essence and basic concepts but also actively construct a theoretical system of sports with Chinese characteristics.(2)Contemporary school physical education should adhere to the guiding ideology of "health first",further strengthen the infiltration of moral education in physical education,pour attention to enriching the content and methods of physical education,and actively create a favorable environment for physical exercise.(3)Contemporarysports culture’s development requires strengthening the research and inheritance of excellent traditional Chinese sports culture.At the same time,it is necessary to reasonably emulate the advanced example of the advanced foreign sports culture abroad,building a sports culture with both national and international characteristics,to comply with the development of the times.(4)The development of contemporary competitive sports should attach importance to moral education and improve the moral character of participants in competitive sports.At the same time,it is also necessary to actively promote the common development of school sports and competitive sports.
