A Study On The Influence Of Family Cultural Capital On Vocational Enlightenment Of Primary School Students

As one of the most important growth environments for individuals,family is the first place for adolescents and children to acquire initial life experience,social norms and professional knowledge.Different cultural capital ownership in different families has different impacts on children’s career development.Most of the existing studies focus on the influence of family cultural capital on students’ academic achievement and acquisition of a specific ability,but little on vocational education,especially the influence of family cultural capital on primary school students’ vocational enlightenment.Based on Bourdieu’s theory of cultural capital,this study quantifies institutional capital,objectified capital and physical capital,and specifically analyzes the relationship between family cultural capital and primary school students’ vocational enlightenment.The survey objects of this study involved a number of parents and primary school students in Hebei,Shanxi,Shandong and Henan.370 questionnaires were finally recovered,and a total of 355 valid questionnaires were included in the study after 15 invalid questionnaires were excluded,with an effective rate of 95.95%.The research results show that: first,there are significant differences in the ownership of family cultural capital among students in different occupational enlightenment groups.The institutionalized cultural capital,objectification cultural capital and physical cultural capital owned by families of the high level group were significantly higher than those of the low level group.Secondly,family cultural capital has obvious positive correlation with primary school students’ vocational enlightenment.Among them,physical cultural capital has the highest correlation with primary school students’ career enlightenment,followed by institutionalized cultural capital and objectified cultural capital.Family cultural capital is significantly correlated with the three dimensions of primary school students’ vocational enlightenment,among which physical cultural capital and institutionalized cultural capital are significantly correlated with primary school students’ self-cognition,vocational cognition and vocational attitude,while objectified capital is not significantly correlated with primary school students’ vocational attitude.Thirdly,family cultural capital has a significant impact on primary school students’ career enlightenment.Among them,institutionalized cultural capital and physical cultural capital have significant influence on primary school students’ vocational enlightenment,while objectified cultural capital has no significant influence on primary school students’ vocational enlightenment.Based on this,from the perspective of cultural capital,this paper puts forward three suggestions to parents to promote the vocational enlightenment of primary school students: first,improve the way of family education and optimize the physical cultural capital;Second,establish the consciousness of lifelong learning and enhance the institutionalized cultural capital;Third,make clear the value of resource utilization and make good use of objectifying cultural capital.
