In today’s society, more and more attention is being paid to discovering the excellent traditional culture of the nation and enhancing cultural confidence. The ancient poetry works included in language textbooks meet the requirements of both quality and beauty, and studying them not only enhances language skills, aesthetic sensibilities and the noble character of ancient scholars and scholars, but also helps to understand the cultural lineage of the nation, inherit and promote national culture, enhance identification and understanding of Chinese culture, and increase national pride. However, language textbooks are limited in length and cannot contain all the best works of ancient poetry. At the same time, language textbooks are an important basis for teaching content, and the quality of the selection of ancient poetry directly affects the actual effect of teaching and learning for teachers and students,so it is worth thinking about a reasonable selection of ancient poetry in language textbooks. The mainland region has strengthened the content of education on the excellent traditional Chinese culture, while the Hong Kong region also attaches importance to preserving traditional culture, using traditional Chinese characters in writing and Cantonese and Putonghua in speaking,in addition, the Hong Kong region also focuses on English and widely absorbs Western culture. It is necessary to compare the selection of ancient poems in the two editions,so that we can perceive the characteristics and learn from the comparison, and promote the subsequent reform of language teaching materials. This paper consists of six parts: in the introduction section, the origin and significance of the study, the current situation, the object and the methodology are described. The first chapter defines the concept of ancient poetry and summarises the value of teaching ancient poetry in the light of its characteristics;the second chapter compares the requirements of the two textbooks on the selection of ancient poetry and summarises the commonalities and differences in the theoretical guidance of the selection of ancient poetry;the third chapter compares the works of ancient poetry in the two textbooks in terms of quantity, proportion, dynastic distribution, authors, genre, subject matter, style of arrangement and structure of arrangement, and summarises through comparison the commonalities and The fourth chapter is a comprehensive analysis of the above findings, which is combined with the strengths and weaknesses of the two editions of the textbook, and provides suggestions for the selection and writing of ancient poems in high school language textbooks;finally,it summarises the results of the study on the selection and arrangement of ancient poems and presents the shortcomings of the study. The innovation of this article lies in the selection of representative textbooks from two places with similar culture but slightly different cultural backgrounds in the same period, and the selection of ancient poems as an entry point to compare and summarise the common experience and characteristics of the selection of ancient poems in the two editions,so as to promote further rationalisation and scientificisation of the selection of ancient poems in subsequent textbooks.
