Study On The Impact Of Father’s Participation In Parenting To Children’s Social Development

The family as a major factor which influences the social dimension of young children’s progress.gins.Parents are the number one teacher of their infants and their upbringing,attitudes and behaviours are closely linked to the social development of their children.Fathers play a pivotal role in the ecological environment in which children grow up.The influence of fathers on the social development of young children cannot be replaced by that of mothers.It is necessary and valuable to consider the social development of young children from the perspective of fathers and to explore their relationship with their social development.Using survey questionnaires and interviews,this study explored the association between fathers’ involvement in parenting and the social development of young children using 527 young children and parents in primary and secondary classes in four public kindergartens in Area Y as the subjects and came to the following conclusions.1.fathers’ involvement in parenting is moderately high overall,with the highest scores for parenting support and teaching of rules and the lowest scores for growth in fatherhood.There are no significant differences in fathers’ involvement in parenting by age,gender,only child status,or father’s age and education,but there are significant differences by father’s income and occupation.2.The overall social development of children is above the average level,with the highest score of empathy and helping others and the lowest score of living habits.There were considerable discrepancies in the social development of young children on the ethnic group,sex and age of the children and the age,education,income and occupation variables of the fathers.There was no difference in whether the child was an only child.Correlation analyses showed that the dimensions of father involvement in parenting and total level of involvement in parenting were correlated to varying degrees with the dimensions of young children’s social development: emotional communication,leisure activities,spatial accessibility,psychological accessibility,developmental planning and total level of father involvement in parenting were significantly correlated with the dimensions of young children’s social development of honesty and fairness,empathy and helpfulness,and competence,as well as with total level of involvement;father involvement in parenting of role modeling and fatherhood The growth dimension of father involvement in parenting is significantly correlated with the social development dimensions of honesty and fairness,empathy and helpfulness,and competence,as well as with the total level;the life care dimension is significantly correlated with the social development dimensions of peer relationships,non-aggression,and independence,as well as with the total level;the academic support dimension of father involvement in parenting is significantly correlated with the social compliance,social awareness,and volition dimensions of social development,as well as with the total level.There were significant correlations between fathers’ involvement in teaching rules and the dimensions of compliance with social rules,social cognition and volition,as well as total levels;and between fathers’ involvement in parenting support and the dimensions of compliance with social rules,social cognition and volition,as well as total levels of young children’s social development.The regression analysis showed that the psychological accessibility of fathers’ involvement in parenting significantly predicted the development of social compliance,social cognition,volition,attachment to family,emotional stability,self-concept and honesty and fairness;paternal growth significantly predicted the development of social cognition,volition,attachment to family and independence;emotional communication significantly predicted the development of empathy and helpfulness and competence;developmental planning significantly predicted the development of habits of life;and development of social and emotional development.Developmental planning significantly predicts the development of habits;role modeling significantly predicts the development of inward-external orientation;spatial accessibility significantly predicts the development of peer relationships;and parenting support significantly predicts the development of self-esteem.Based on these findings,this paper offers practical suggestions for enhancing fathers’ involvement in parenting to promote their children’s social development at three levels:fathers,families and kindergartens.As fathers,they should face up to the importance of their own parenting,and in particular understand the value of father involvement in parenting for the social development of young children;value the positive effects of paternal growth and promote paternal growth;and clarify the role of role models to set an example for the social development of young children.In the family,couples should create a healthy and harmonious relationship to create a harmonious family atmosphere for the psychological and spatial accessibility of fathering;family members should unify parenting concepts and attitudes and support fathering participation.Kindergartens should take advantage of the integration of educational resources,the control of educational discourse and the concentration of fathers,and make use of the role of new technological media to attract fathers to participate in kindergarten education by organising appropriate activities,thereby increasing the motivation of fathers to participate in early childhood education and promoting the social development of young children.For example,fathers can be invited to share their experiences through fatherhood education courses and ’Dad’s Salon’,which helps fathers to grow up;fathers can be encouraged to participate by setting up fatherhood brochures and bulletin boards,using new media to broaden the channels for fathers to participate,and carrying out a series of ’Dad’s Day’ activities.Fathers’ parenting support and emotional communication with young children are strengthened through the setting up of fathering brochures and bulletin boards,the use of new media to broaden the channels for fathers’ participation,and the launch of a series of ’Dads’ Day’ activities.
