With the rapid development of urbanization and industrialization in China, more and more rural labor force are migrating to cities. With the rapid increase of the number of urban migrant population, the scale of children of migrant population is rapidly expanding. As a vulnerable group in cities, migrant children are faced with problems such as lack of educational resources, unstable living environment, and difficulty in urban integration, which is not conducive to the healthy growth of migrant children.Reading is an important way for migrant children to acquire cultural knowledge and shape a sound personality.Improving the reading interest of migrant children can not only make up for the shortage of educational resources for migrant children, but also improve their learning ability and promote migrant children to better adapt to the new environment.Through questionnaire surveys,semi-structured interviews, and participatory observations, the current situation of reading interests of migrant children in L Street was understood, and the influencing factors, needs, and other aspects of reading interests of migrant children were analyzed.Under the guidance of social learning theory, group dynamics theory and social support theory,we designed the group work service plan.According to the free time and willingness of migrant children to participate,10 migrant children were selected as the service objects of this group work, and six group activities were carried out to create a good reading atmosphere for migrant children through group activities,at the same time,to meet the needs of migrant children’s reading companions, reading guidance and reading resources, and to improve their reading ability and improve their reading interest. After the group work, the group work was evaluated by using the group activity satisfaction scale and follow-up interviews to test the achievement of the group work objectives, service effects and the satisfaction of the service objects. Finally,it summarizes and reflects on the advantages and disadvantages of group work involved in the improvement of migrant children’s reading interest, and puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions for the existing shortcomings,in order to promote the improvement of migrant children’s reading interest more effectively. The research results show that group work is effective in improving the reading interest of migrant children. The reading group not only provides a place for migrant children to read and share with their peers, but also enables migrant children to establish correct reading awareness and experience the pleasure of reading. It also improves the interaction and communication between migrant children, promotes the socialization of migrant children, and is conducive to their healthy growth. However, there are some deficiencies in this study, such as the lack of the establishment of a sustainable long-term mechanism in the group work, which still need to be further improved. These are also issues that need to be further explored in the future study.
