STEAM,is a combination of the five initials of science,technology,engineering,arts,and mathematics,which education philosophy is a discipline integrated education philosophy that integrates scientific knowledge,technical skills,engineering mind,artistic literacy,and mathematical thinking.Its application in practical teaching is helpful to the realization of teaching objectives,improving the current teaching status,and conforming to the current era of education development.The new teaching textbooks for senior high school chemistry had been used for two years in Urumqi,Xinjiang.Under the requirements of the new curriculum reform,the implementation of high school chemistry teaching attaches more importance to the practical application of educational ideas and concepts.From the column setting of the new textbook,we find that most of them are very exploratory and open,focusing on guiding students to conduct scientific inquiry,which fully reflects the new textbook’s emphasis on the cultivation of students’ chemistry literacy.After investigating the current situation of chemistry teaching in senior high schools in Urumqi and further understanding the connotation of STEAM education concept,this manuscript with an educational strategy,which promotes the effective implementation of STEAM education in high school chemistry teaching,is constructed based on the Chemistry Curriculum Standard for Senior High Schools(2017 edition)and the 2019 edition of Chemistry Textbook for Senior High Schools.Exploring the connotation,characteristics,and theories of STEAM education with the method of literature research,and summarizing the research status at home and abroad.According to the survey and interview methods,conducting a questionnaire survey on high school chemistry teachers and high school students in Urumqi,and interviewing front-line teachers to understand the popularity of STEAM education in this region and the development of high school chemistry teaching.Setting an example about taking non-metallic elements in high school chemistry and chemical production,and two subjects about "Properties of nitric acid" and "Transformation of sulfur-containing Substances in different valence states" are selected.The STEAM education concept is integrated into the teaching design of high school chemistry by the experimental method,and forms a relatively feasible teaching scheme,which is tried out in the chemistry students of high school.The students of the experimental class and the control class are compared and analyzed.The results show that the teaching integrated with STEAM education concept is conducive to cultivating students’ core chemistry literacy,improving students’ classroom efficiency and comprehensive ability,and improving the current situation of chemistry teaching in Urumqi.This study can promote the popularization and promotion of the STEAM education concept in Urumqi area and has a reference significance for Urumqi high school chemistry teachers to better carry out STEAM education.
