In the past few years,grade-one students’ adaptation to admission has been a highlight for more and more people.For the change in the living environment and the absence of the bridging education between kindergarten and primary school,there must be a certain bad adaptation for grade-one students in the learning adaptation and interpersonal communication,which would affect their sequential learning and life.Among them,the grade-one students in the schools for mental retardation would be harder to get into the new environment than the ordinary ones due to the obstacles in psychology and biology.The bad adaptation in the admission further magnifies their shortage in ability.Most of the bad adaptations of these students in admission should be closely related to the lack of pertinent education measures instead of the constraints on their own ability.The adaptation to admission has been a trouble for many front-line teachers and head teachers of many schools for mental retardation,and it is a practical problem to be solved urgently.The picture book is a good educational resource,which is not only popular among students but also has abundant educational value.In ordinary primary schools and kindergartens,some scholars apply the picture book to the field of new students’ adaptation to admission and gain some achievements.However,there are fewer studies involved in the schools for mental retardation.Thus,the research tries to make the theme reading of picture books as a media to explore the feasibility of applying the theme reading of picture books to the education of adaptation to admission for grade-one students in the schools for mental retardation through the cycle of action and reflection in the mode of action research,so as to upgrade their adaptation to admission and conclude the feasible suggestions and guidance policy to carry out picture book reading with the theme of adaptation to admission.With the grade-one student in a school for mental retardation as the research object,the research made a pre-test of the students of two classes with Questionnaire of the Survey for New Students’ Adaptation to Admission in the School for Mental Retardation.The result showed that there was no significant difference between the students in the two classes in the aspect of adaptation to admission.The students of the two classes were divided into the experimental group and the control group.There was an intervention for the students in the experimental group while there was no other intervention but the normal daily education for the students in the other group.Through the one-week observation of students in the control group,the dominant problem was found in their adaptation to admission.According to the dominant problem,there was a classification of the theme to choose the proper picture book.There was an intervention with five action cycles for the students in the experimental group with the picture book of theme reading.During the intervention,it is observed with the change of students’ adaptation to admission keeps reflecting and improving the way of theme reading.Then,there was a post-test with the questionnaire for adaptation to admission after the completion of the five rounds of action research.There was an analysis of the data in the pre-test and post-test,and the result showed that: there was an extremely significant difference in the experimental group in the pre-test and post-test for adaptation to admission,and the post-test of the control group was also significantly higher than the pre-test.In addition,there was a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group.It was concluded with three conclusions.Firstly,there should be strong feasibility to carry out the education of adaptation to admission for the students in a school for mental retardation with the carrier of theme reading of picture books.Secondly,an effective theme reading of picture books would be good for strengthening the grade-one students’ adaptation to admission in the schools for mental retardation.Thirdly,the “1+N” multiple integrated reading modes would have a better application of theme reading of picture books to the field of adaptation to admission.The research proposes the following suggestions.Firstly,schools could try to integrate the picture with the theme of adaptation to admission into the daily course.Secondly,there should be sufficient attention to the selection and processing of picture books for the picture book reading with the theme of adaptation to admission.Thirdly,it should be student-oriented to adopt diverse approaches to carry out the picture book reading with the theme of adaptation to admission. |
