A Case Work Support Study On The Formation Of Professional Skills In The Early Stage Of Seafarers’ Career Development

In the new era,the requirements for the quality of labor force are getting higher and higher.The state vigorously promotes the upgrading of industrial technology and the industrial workers’ skills.Under this background,the requirements of the shipping industry for seafarers’ professional skills are constantly improving,and “skill formation” has gradually become an important theme in the process of seafarers’ professional development.From the perspective of empowerment theory and social support network theory,combining with semi-structured interviews and related literature,this study conducts in-depth interviews with seafarers,and discusses the formation of seafarers’ vocational skills in knowledge learning and skill accumulation at the early stage of their career development,as well as the existing problems in knowledge learning and skill accumulation.On this basis,this study takes the task-centered model as a practical method,explores the reasons behind the problems according to the specific situation of the clients and the general process of social work.Besides,this study focuses on the seafarers’ career development needs in the “skill formation” stage,solves the problems existing in the stage,puts forward targeted practical programs for career development support,and designs and completes the goals of each intervention stage,so as to help seafarers form more skills and achieve better career development.At the operational level,based on related literature and interview results,this study divides the problems existing in the formation of seafarers’ vocational skills in the early stage of career development into three categories,namely,“unsuitable learning environment in the formation of vocational skills”,“insufficient learning motivation in the formation of vocational skills” and “insufficient learning ability in the formation of vocational skills”.One of the service objects of the three categories is selected as a typical case to explore the practice of case work,aiming at helping the service objects who have “unsuitable learning environment in the formation of vocational skills” improve their relationship with the master and expand the channels of resource acquisition,helping those who have “insufficient learning motivation in the formation of vocational skills” adjust their wrong cognition and re-stimulate their development motivation,helping those who have “insufficient learning ability in the formation of vocational skills” improve their learning skills and supplement basic knowledge,and finally summarizing and reflecting on the actual situation.This study holds that social work can provide effective support for the formation of seafarers’ vocational skills,but in practice,there may be some problems,such as unclear role orientation of social workers,insufficient resource reserves,too single intervention means,etc.In the subsequent practice of supporting the formation of seafarers’ professional skills,we should further make preliminary research and plans,improve the interaction with the service objects,strengthen the follow-up of the service objects,actively promote the service objects to “help others and help themselves” and promote the self-growth of the service objects.
