With the current advancement of quality education,one-sided traditional training for students that only focuses on academic results are no longer sufficient to meet the needs of youth nowadays to grow into an all-rounded individual.Other than music and art classes that could enhance their artistic sense, physical education is one of the most basic and important part of the overall education of any person. As the former president of the People’s Republic of China says,’The body is the capital of revolution’,we could understand that physical education which aims to enhance student’s physical fitness and physique, sharpen their spiritual strength, and help to shape their character firmly to face the unknown challenges in future. The United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia(Dong Zong)in Malaysia has always ensure attention is given to the development of physical education amongst the Chinese independent high schools. The’Chinese independent high schools’ Education Reformation Program’ which was rolled out in 2004 has clearly set out the course development objectives for the non-academic or non-test subjects, that confirmed physical education as part of Chinese independent high school’s culture in Malaysia. The reformation program ensures Chinese independent high schools embeds physical education course into every class to achieve the aim of students having a healthy lifestyle,as well as maintaining a stable mental and physical health.Besides,it also emphasised the responsibility of’Dong Jiao Zong Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary School Development Working Committee’,also known as ’MICSS Working Committee’ to promote the need to carry out physical activities involving most of the students in an extensive and in-depth manner. This will then facilitate the schools’management to have a proper understanding of school’s physical education and sports activities. In turn,it will allow them to act out by involving themselves more in promoting physical education courses and related activities, and support sports events that are held all over in Malaysia. This paper mainly uses the literature research method, questionnaire survey method, interview method, and mathematical statistics method to facilitate the research.Surveys are performed on 1102 students and 289 teachers(including 29 physical education teachers)in four of the Chinese independent high schools in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor,Malaysia. The survey focuses on the reformation status of physical education in recent years, from the perspective of the management, teachers, curriculum,as well as the facilities for physical education in Chinese independent high schools. The study has found the following:1.The management team of all four Chinese independent high school surveyed are actively promoting physical education.Although most of them do not have a background in physical education, they understand the importance of physical education and has made it clear to promote it within the school. However, physical education classes tend to be cancelled and/or replaced by other academic subjects during exam periods.2.The group of physical education teachers are now more professional as compared to 2018 when the ’MICSS Education Blueprint’ rolls out.79%of the 29 physical education teachers surveyed came from a physical education background, one of them with the highest academic achievement of master’s in physical education. The school are paying more attention to the applicant’s education background and/or teaching experience when they are interviewing for physical education teachers.3.The physical education curriculum is designed carefully to ensure its diversity. The curriculum is still good enough to address students’needs and make sure they know the importance of sportsmanship, fitness, and health.4.The facilities for physical education of the four schools surveyed requires refurbishments, renovations or built to fit the increasing numbers of students every year. However, the schools are facing issues with sufficient resources and finances to fulfill the requests.Based on the above,we propose the following points for improvement of Malaysia Chinese independent high schools’ reformation, which includes:1.The school management needs to have a more in-depth understanding on physical education to ensure it is being valued adequately for smooth development.2.The physical education teachers in Chinese independent high schools should ensure they are up to date by voluntarily attending refresher courses or on-the-job training. The schools should also assign more human resources to assist the physical education teachers to perform administrative works so they could focus more on the development of the subject.3.The school needs to take the feedbacks from the students into account so that the curriculum designed is sufficient to their needs. The curriculum must be evaluated adequately to ensure its relevance to the current world development.4.School alumni, parents and society are the source of financial aid to enhance or increase the facilities of physical education within the school.Other non-financial resources and sponsorships than could also help to provide the students with a good environment for physical education.
