According to the experience of elderly care, some elderly who are on the brink of death may not be able to take care of themselves. At the same time, the aging population is the basic national condition of China for a long time.More elderly are facing end-of-life choices.Compared to Western countries,China’s palliative care started relatively late, and the quality of death among Chinese is relatively low.The traditional concept of filial piety in China is seen as an important obstacle to the implementation and promotion of palliative eare. This article focuses on 25 middle-aged and elderly respondents, using semi-structured interviews and participatory observation methods to obtain data and analyze them.Research has found that, firstly,at the end of life, who has less than six months to live, sons or daughters who choose to give up life support system for their parents and choose to pass away with dignity will not be considered as unfilial child. Most respondents are not evasive about the death. The advocacy of palliative care for allowing death to come naturally rather than prematurely or delayed has been recognized by some respondents.Secondly,There is an elective affinity between filial piety and palliative care, with the changes of the times, there is a trend of mutual integration and influence between filial piety and palliative care.Although traditional filial piety has certain obstacles to the development of peaceful care services, with the changes of the times and changes in public attitudes, passing away with dignity and comfort has gradually become a manifestation of filial piety and science.Thirdly,Although the older generation lacks understanding of palliative care, their expression of end-of-life needs is also consistent with palliative care.Compared to the older generation, the younger generation has higher awareness, acceptance, and expectations of palliative care.People have a certain understanding of palliative care, but the level of understanding is still far from enough.Exploring the elective affinity between filial piety and palliative care can help the elderly and their families make a choice before death, deciding whether to continue life support therapy or to let the elderly die in comfort and dignity, improving the quality of old people’s death can also reduce the moral judgment of family members. It not only preserves the dignity of death of the elderly, but also enables the family members to face up to the fact rationally and scientifically that their loved ones will die,so that more elderly at the end of have the opportunity to choose the dignity of death, thus raising people’s awareness of palliative care, creating a social atmosphere about loving for the elderly, respecting for the elderly and filialing to the elderly.
