According to the release of the new Chinese curriculum standards,whole-book reading has become a hot topic in the field of Chinese education research.Whole-book reading helps to break through the limitations of traditional single-article teaching, and through the process of reading a complete book,it can develop and improve students’reading ability. As early as 2004,Fujian province included the evaluation of reading classics in the college entrance examination, which has been continued up until today.Over the years, the evaluation of reading classics in the college entrance examination has formed certain characteristics, but there are also some problems. In the context of the promotion of whole-book reading in the new curriculum standards, the evaluation of reading classics in the college entrance examination should also make certain improvements to adapt to the development and changes of the times. At the same time, due to the limitations of its paper-and-pencil testing form, more attention should be paid to making up for its shortcomings in the process of whole-book reading teaching, and form a perfect whole-book reading evaluation system together with other evaluation methods,to improve students’ reading ability and promote the development of their Chinese literacy. This paper consists of three parts:introduction, main body, and conclusion. The introduction elaborates on the research background, research questions, and research significance of this article, reviews existing literature, and briefly explains the research methods. The main body includes four chapters.Chapter One defines the concepts of the evaluation of reading classics in the college entrance examination of the Chinese subject and whole-book reading, and analyzes the development direction of the evaluation of reading classics under the whole-book reading’s perspective.Chapter Two statistically analyzes the relevant data of the evaluation of reading classics in the college entrance examination of the Chinese subject in various provinces from three aspects:test question setting, examination books and examination content, and analyzes its current situation in various provinces.Based on the analysis in Chapter Two,Chapter Three summarizes the characteristics and problems of the evaluation of reading classics.Chapter Four proposes corresponding improvement suggestions for the problems mentioned in Chapter Three and points out the focus that should be paid attention to in the process of whole-book reading teaching due to the inherent limitations of paper-and-pencil testing.Based on the problems of the evaluation of reading classics in the college entrance examination of the Chinese subject, this paper makes recommendations for targeted improvements:in terms of test question setting, the test question design should be more situational;in terms of examination books, theirs test frequency should be balanced and their types should be more diverse;in terms of examination content,it should focus on the characteristics of whole-book reading and aim at examining thinking qualities. Therefore,in the process of whole-book reading teaching, teachers should help students construct reading experiences, improve Chinese literacy, and conduct multidimensional evaluations to truly benefit students.
