Novel unit teaching is an important component of language education.Through novel unit teaching,students can improve their understanding and appreciation of literature,enhance their language skills,and cultivate their ability to think deeply about the underlying meaning of the plot,thereby improving their critical thinking skills and cultural literacy.However,in practical teaching,there are still problems with the inefficiency of novel unit teaching,and thus more effective teaching methods need to be explored.Project-based learning is a student-centered,group-based learning approach focused on the core knowledge of subjects,which can effectively cultivate students’ comprehensive literacy and thinking skills.Overall,project-based learning and novel unit teaching have high compatibility and meet the requirements of the new curriculum for novel teaching.Therefore,it is of practical significance to draw on and apply the ideas,concepts,and methods of project-based learning to novel unit teaching.This article takes novel unit teaching under project-based learning as the research object,using literature research methods,questionnaire surveys,interviews and other research methods.Firstly,the feasibility of this approach is discussed from a theoretical perspective,clarifying its theoretical basis and implementation potential.Subsequently,a preliminary investigation was conducted in High School A in Nanning City,High Schools B and C in Chengde City,Hebei Province,and other cities and regions of Guangxi through questionnaire surveys.The investigation found that the problems of novel unit teaching include vague and abstract teaching objectives,dependence on traditional teaching methods,low frequency of unit teaching implementation,neglect of students ’ core competencies,and single-dimensional teaching evaluation.Based on the theoretical analysis and practical basis,this article attempts to construct a novel unit project-based learning model that includes three stages: project initiation,implementation,and summary.By integrating language practice activities into the entire process of unit learning,students can continuously construct meaningful knowledge through joint exploration,thereby promoting greater improvement in their language skills.Finally,based on the above project process,this article designs a project-based learning novel unit teaching program for the sixth unit of the High School Chinese compulsory textbook,summarizes the problems encountered in practice,and proposes suggestions for improvement.In conclusion,project-based learning can provide valuable inspiration and ideas for high school novel unit teaching,enabling teachers to gain inspiration in teaching and help alleviate difficulties encountered in novel unit teaching.Furthermore,project-based learning can also guide students to cultivate core competencies,cooperative exploration awareness,and improve their comprehensive abilities.However,practical implementation requires teachers to have high professional competence,and students may also encounter difficulties that require support from various aspects.
