Geographical core literacy is the key literacy that reflects the value of educating people in geography,and cultivating high school students’ geographical practical ability is an important part of implementing the educational task of establishing morality and cultivating people.In2021,the Ministry of Education proposed to explore the popularization of teaching methods under technological conditions.As a new teaching method,experiential teaching can help students acquire knowledge,improve their abilities,and develop literacy,and the construction of experiential teaching modality can promote experiential teaching to be more operational and practical,but there are few reports on exploring the cultivation of geographical practical ability from the perspective of teaching modality.In 2022,the Ministry of Education proposed to deepen the integration and innovation of information technology and education teaching,and geographical information technology as a teaching tool can promote the construction of experiential teaching modality and the cultivation of geographical practical ability.QGIS is an open source and free desktop GIS software,which is an effective tool for conducting experiential teaching of geography in secondary schools.Therefore,exploring the experiential teaching modality of geographical practical ability based on QGIS software has great practical application value.This paper adopts literature research method,case study method,questionnaire survey method and interview method,and uses educational information technology theory,experiential learning theory,and constructivist learning theory as the guiding basis,elaborates the concepts of QGIS,geographical practical ability,experiential teaching,and experiential teaching modality,and demonstrates the feasibility of constructing experiential teaching modality based on QGIS software to cultivate geographical practical ability,and proposes the construction principles,frameworks,and forms of the QGIS-based experiential teaching modality of geographical practical ability,and carry out teaching demonstration,effect analysis,and revise modality of the QGIS-based experiential teaching modality of geographical practical ability.The findings of this paper are as follows:(1)This paper analyzes the applicability from the functions and advantages of QGIS software,and analyzes the appropriateness from the relationship between QGIS software,experiential teaching,experiential teaching modality,and geographical practical ability.It demonstrates the feasibility of constructing experiential teaching modality based on QGIS software to cultivate geographical practical ability.(2)This paper proposes the principles for constructing the experiential teaching modality of geographical practical ability based on QGIS,and constructs the overall framework of the experiential teaching modality of "pre course preparation--implementation process--teaching evaluation",and constructs three experiential teaching modalities of "observation-discovery modality","hands-on-operation modality",and "question-inquiry modality".(3)Taking "main vegetation","vegetation and environment",and "tourism development of Yangmei Ancient Town" as teaching cases,an empirical study was conducted on three experiential teaching modalities: "observation-discovery modality","hands-on-operation modality",and "question-inquiry modality".The effectiveness of practical teaching was evaluated through evaluation scales,survey papers,and interview analysis.Research has shown that the practice of the three experiential teaching modalities can not only help students acquire practical subject knowledge and practical operational knowledge,but also enhance practical abilities such as observation,hands-on and inquiry,and develop practical literacy such as practical interest and motivation,practical will and geographical thinking,and practical ethics,achieving the cultivation of geographical practical ability.(4)On the basis of teaching demonstration and effect analysis,the teacher-student teaching process of three experiential teaching modalities have been revised and improved from two stages: pre course preparation and implementation process,in order to better implement the students’ geographical practical ability.The innovation of this paper is to use QGIS software as an auxiliary tool and integrate it into experiential teaching of geography in secondary schools,constructing an experiential teaching modality based on QGIS software to realize the cultivation of geographical practical ability,enriching the theory and practice of the experiential teaching modality of geography in secondary schools and further improving the cultivation method of geographical practical ability.
