As a natural teaching strategy, pivotal response training(PRT)is based on key areas and targets at the core disorders of autistic children. It can produce the fastest and best intervention effect and effectively improve the development of autistic children’s social interaction, joint attention, oral communication or play ability. As a high-level abstract game, pretend play can cultivate children’s basic skills and help express positive and negative emotions. It is very important for children’s development.Lack of pretend play will affect children’s cognitive ability, social interaction, emotion and other aspects of development. As one of the characteristics of autism,it is necessary to conduct quantitative research on the characteristics of pretend play in children with autism and teach them pretend play. Therefore, this study explores the following aspects: Study I 30 preschool autistic children and 30 typical development children were selected to evaluate the pretend play using the self-designed game behavior scoring table. The results showed that the scores of all dimensions of autistic children were significantly lower than those of matched typical development children.Study II used a cross-behavior multi-detection design with pivotal response training as the independent variable and three types of pretend play as the dependent variable to intervene two children with autism, and the results showed that both subjects improved their pretend play to some extent.Through the discussion and analysis of the research results, the following conclusions are drawn:(1)The level of pretend play of preschool autistic children is significantly lower than that of ordinary children;(2)Motivation is a significant key area in pivotal response training;(3)PRT can effectively increase the pretend play behavior of preschool autistic children, with better immediate effect and maintenance effect;(4)PRT has good social validity.Based on the above findings, the researcher puts forward the following teaching suggestions:(1)stimulate and maintain students’ motivation;(2)Use natural reinforcement as much as possible;(3)Flexible teaching;(4)Pay attention to the role of parents’ intervention.
