With the rapid development of science and technology, many digital devices have entered every household’s life, from young children to the elderly, most of whom have experience as digital citizens. However, the digital competence displayed by each individual during this process is not necessarily the same.Society has also put forward more and more complex requirements for people’s digital competence. The current situation of primary school students’ digital competence and how to improve it have become issues worth paying attention to after the promulgation of information technology curriculum standards in compulsory education. This article mainly focuses on the third stage students of three primary schools in H city, with digital competence as the research theme, and the main research objectives are "the current situation of digital competence in primary school students" and "strategies to improve digital competence in primary school students".First of all, this paper traces back to the source to understand the basic concept of digital competence.Taking this as a reference, based on the "Information Technology Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022Edition)",the concept of "digital competence" is defined, and a digital competence framework is constructed from the four core competencies of information awareness, computational thinking, digital learning and innovation, and information society responsibility.Based on this framework,a survey questionnaire and interview outline will be developed to understand the current status of digital competence among primary school students. The survey found that primary school students have the following problems with digital competence: insufficient ability to distinguish information security and authenticity in terms of information awareness;Lack of problem abstraction and generalization ability in computational thinking, lack of proactive problem-solving attitude, and regional differences; The ability to solve digital problems and innovate in digital learning and innovation needs to be improved, and there are regional differences; The understanding of information society responsibility is not comprehensive. To solve the above issues, analyze the causes of problems in each dimension from the perspectives of teachers, schools, and students, and finally propose strategies to enhance students’ abilities in each dimension, including: teachers providing practical opportunities for students,School guarantees the implementation of courses, and students accumulating experience to enhance information awareness;Strengthen guidance from teachers, train teachers in schools, and build confidence among students to enhance computational thinking;Teachers create scenarios, schools communicate and share resources, and students think and innovate to enhance their digital learning and innovation abilities;Teachers should coordinate with all parties to leverage their educational advantages, schools should improve evaluation standards, and students should have a comprehensive understanding of learning to enhance their information society responsibility. The proposal of the above measures is expected to be helpful in improving the digital competence of primary school students.
