Under the new curriculum reform and the college entrance examination reform,the development of students’ core literacy has become the focus of teachers’ teaching,and unit teaching has attracted much attention.As a new teaching design theory that promotes students’ understanding,Understanding by Design(Ub D)not only conforms to the concept of new curriculum reform,but also provides ideas for teachers to carry out teaching from the perspective of teaching design.By combining Ub D theory with unit teaching,it can not only promote the development of students’ core literacy,but also help teachers to further think about teaching design.This study adopts literature research method,questionnaire survey method,interview survey method,and educational experimental research method.Firstly,the related concepts are defined by reading books and consulting literature,and the research progress of Ub D theory and unit teaching at home and abroad is summarized.Secondly,survey the current situation of high school students and teachers,find out the current situation of high school students learning,and explore the shortcomings of unit teaching based on Ub D theory.Thirdly,based on constructivism theory,cognitive development theory,situational learning theory and Ub D theory,this study discusses the connotation,characteristics,and application principles of high school biology unit teaching based on Ub D theory and constructs the basic process of unit teaching.Finally,taking the third chapter "the basic structure of the cell" in PEP compulsory 1 as an example,the unit teaching design example is developed,the unit teaching practice is carried out,and the experience is summarized.Through the analysis of the research process and results,the following conclusions are drawn:1.Through the questionnaire survey of students,it is found that:(1)Students have a strong interest in learning biology courses,which lays a specific foundation for the smooth development of biology courses.(2)At present,students’ preparation before class,evaluation in class,summary and application after class need to be strengthened.Teachers should adopt diversified teaching methods and evaluation methods to guide students’ learning.(3)Students have new expectations for the methods of teaching,evaluation,and teaching activities.Students expect to improve their knowledge application level and actual problem-solving ability.2.Through interviews with teachers,it is found that:(1)Teachers’ understanding of Ub D theory and unit teaching needs to be deepened.(2)The difficulties for teachers to carry out unit teaching of biology based on Ub D theory in senior high school mainly include four aspects: tight teaching time,many teaching tasks,insufficient professional quality of teachers and weak foundation of students.The solutions mainly focus on improving teachers’ professional quality and optimizing teaching content.(3)Teachers expect that unit teaching based on Ub D theory can comprehensively develop students’ core literacy of biology,implement the concept of "less but better" teaching content advocated by the current biology curriculum,and expect to use multiple evaluation methods to evaluate students comprehensively.3.This study discusses the connotation,characteristics and application principles of high school biology unit teaching based on Ub D theory,constructs the basic process of high school biology unit teaching based on Ub D theory with the characteristics of "core literacy oriented","situation-task-activity as the main line" and "teaching-learning-evaluation integration",and develops the unit teaching design example of "the basic structure of the cell" according to the process,which provides an operable path for implementing students’ core literacy of biology.4.Through the study of unit teaching practice based on Ub D theory,it is found that:(1)Compared with traditional teaching,unit teaching based on Ub D theory can promote students’ deep understanding of learning content and improve students’ academic performance.(2)After unit teaching based on Ub D theory,students can form a perfect conceptual system in their minds and draw a more rigorous mind map of logical thinking.(3)Students can better understand the relative size and relative position of cell structure and build a more exquisite cell model.
