Since the 1960 s,self-directed learning has attracted the attention of adult learners at that time,advocating for autonomous and spontaneous learning.In the current era of the Internet,access to learning resources is more abundant and convenient,providing learners with excellent opportunities for self-directed learning.With the continuous expansion of China’s higher education scale,the quality of higher education training has become a major focus of social attention.As one of the main forces influencing future social development and direction,the quality of college students’ training determines and reflects the quality of higher education,and self-directed learning for undergraduate students is an important way to ensure the quality of their learning.Compared to high school and previous learning stages,undergraduate students have more autonomy in learning.As they continue to develop,they are adults with the possibility of self-directed learning.At the same time,previous research has shown that the theory of self-directed learning is also applicable to groups other than adult learners.Therefore,it is feasible to cultivate undergraduate students to carry out self-directed learning,Exploring the current situation and improvement strategies of undergraduate students’ self-directed learning ability is of practical significance.This study introduces the theory of self-directed learning in the field of adult education.Through the questionnaire survey and interview survey of S Normal University,SPSS23.0 is used to analyze the questionnaire data,combined with the arrangement and analysis of the interview content,the following conclusions are drawn: the overall self-directed learning ability of undergraduate students is at the middle level;Self-directed learning awareness is at the middle level,but learning objectives are vague and motivation is insufficient;Self-directed learning strategy is at the middle level,and attaches importance to case teaching and modern interactive education technology;Self-directed learning behavior is at the middle level,and the situation of classroom questioning and preview review is poor;Self-directed learning evaluation is at the middle level,and the ability of self-monitoring and evaluation reflection is insufficient;Self-directed learning interpersonal skills are at the middle level,language communication ability is weak,and communication with teachers is less.Based on the five dimensions of self-directed learning,this paper puts forward some suggestions on how to improve the self-directed learning ability of undergraduates from the aspects of colleges and students.From the perspective of universities,we should have a high degree,optimize the professional training program,have a broad scope,provide high-quality learning resources,strengthen the integration of educational technology,and explore the path of interdisciplinary education.From the students’ point of view,it is necessary to stimulate the subject’s consciousness of learning,to choose and use learning strategies correctly,to carry out the behavior of taking root in details,to cultivate the awareness of questions and the spirit of questioning,and to improve the ability of language expression and application.
