Under the influence of the covid-19,teachers' work has been challenged as never before, and teacher learning and innovation are particularly important. At the same time, innovation cannot be separated from learning, and self-directed learning ability is the embodiment of our ability to actively engage in self-improvement.Therefore,this study is based on actual teaching and research on the influence of self-directed learning ability on teaching innovation awareness and behavior of primary and secondary school teachers. The study was divided into Study I and Study II.Study I formed a preliminary questionnaire through literature research and interviews with 23 frontline teachers, and administered to 443 primary and secondary school teachers to form the Awareness and Behavior of Teaching Innovation Questionnaire for Primary and Secondary School Teachers.Using the self-administered questionnaire from Study 1 and Wang Yingying's Self-Oriented Learning Questionnaire for Teachers,Study 2 administered the questionnaire to 483 primary and secondary school frontline teachers to explore the demographic factors that influence teachers' awareness and ability to innovate in teaching, and tested the hypothesis that self-directed learning ability influences awareness and behavior of teaching innovation through correlation and regression analysis of the data.Findings:(1)The teaching innovation awareness and behavior questionnaire includes three dimensions of teaching preparation, teaching implementation, and teaching instruction and evaluation, and has high reliability and validity, which can examine the level of teachers' teaching innovation awareness and behavior at the present stage to a certain extent;(2)teaching innovation awareness and behavior differed in teachers' age, teaching age,and teaching period, with teachers over 30 years old outperforming teachers under 30 years old, expert teachers outperforming novice teachers, and primary school teachers outperforming novice teachers.(3)The higher the teachers' self-directed learning ability, the stronger the teaching innovation consciousness and behavior, and the self-directed learning ability can positively influence the teaching innovation consciousness and behavior.
