| This study analyzed and statistically analyzed error characters produced by novice learners in Pahoa Integrated School, selecting Chinese characters from the elementary level handwritten Chinese character table in the Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education for error analysis. In the process of classifying error characters,a new error classification system was summarized based on previous research. The system is based on the writing unit and plane layout of Chinese characters, and is divided into four categories: Stroke,Component,Misalignment, and Imbalance, with detailed definitions for each type of error. This system has strong applicability, independence, and systematicness. After statistical analysis of 218 character types and 428 error characters,it was found that the most prominent issues in terms of the writing units were deformation and confusion, while the primary issues related to the layout were stroke misalignment and proportion imbalance. This article summarizes the causes of errors as the complexity of Chinese characters, the lack of basic knowledge of students, forgetting, bad writing habits and teaching factors.According to the degree of interference with recognition, this article evaluates the severity of different types of errors.Based on the characteristics of error characters for second language learners, this article also proposes the concept of "substandard characters",which refers to characters with problems in plane layout. Finally, based on the characteristics and causes of learner errors, and combined with the practical Chinese teaching at Pahoa School, five teaching suggestions were proposed, including consolidating basic knowledge, strengthening memory, cultivating good writing habits, optimizing classroom teaching, and cultivating aesthetic appreciation of Chinese characters. |
