| With the accelerated pace of economic globalization, countries are increasingly feeling the scarcity and preciousness of human resources, especially with the development of internationalization of higher education. The competition among countries around the world for international students is becoming increasingly fierce, and the analysis of factors affecting international student mobility is extremely important.Since China entered the new era,the Party and government have made key arrangements for the opening up of education in the new era, proposing to further accelerate the development of the study abroad industry and improve the quality of study abroad education;Improve institutional mechanisms and enhance the level of foreign-related education;Strengthen high-end leadership, enhance China’s educational strength and innovation capabilities;Requirements such as enriching cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries and promoting people-to-people communication. With the implementation of relevant policies, the scale of foreign students in China has expanded rapidly, but the scale of Japanese students in China has changed in contrast, with a downward trend in the number.Understanding the influencing factors of Japanese students studying in China is a window to reflect their scale reduction and a key to further promoting the development of China’s study abroad industry. This study mainly adopts the push-pull theory, international relations theory and the Gravity model of foreign students, and combines relevant research at home and abroad, using quantitative analysis research methods.Taking Japanese students in China as the research object, based on describing the development status of Japanese students in China and bilateral relations between China and Japan, this study focuses on analyzing the reasons behind the reduction of Japanese students in China. The final conclusion is that since the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, the development of the scale of Japanese international students in China has the following basic characteristics:the overall development of the scale of Japanese international students in China follows an "M" curve, divided into four development periods:the embryonic period(1972-1978);Growth period(1979-2002);Fluctuation period(2003-2011);The decreasing period(2012-2018)has different development characteristics in different periods. From the perspective of influencing factors, the political relationship between China and Japan, the total import and export volume of goods between China and Japan, the international ranking of Chinese universities, the total export volume of Chinese cultural products, the investment in environmental pollution control in China, and the expected returns of Japanese students studying in China are all important factors that affect Japanese students studying in China. From the perspective of different types of Japanese students studying in China, the changes in the scale of Japanese students studying in China with academic qualifications are related to four factors:the political relationship between China and Japan, the total amount of imports and exports between China and Japan, the international ranking of Chinese universities, and the expected returns of Japanese students studying in China. The changes in the scale of Japanese non academic students studying in China are related to three factors:the political relationship between China and Japan, the total amount of imports and exports between China and Japan, and expected returns.Among them, the political relationship between China and Japan is the main influencing factor for the changes in the scale of Japanese international students with academic and non academic qualifications coming to China. The impact of the China Japan Political Relations Index, the total amount of imports and exports between China and Japan, the international ranking of Chinese universities, the total number of copyrights for Chinese cultural products exported to Japan, the amount of investment in China’s environmental pollution control, and expected returns on Chinese government scholarship students studying in China from Japan is higher than that of Japanese academic students studying in China, and much higher than that of Japanese non academic students studying in China.Among them, the international ranking of Chinese universities is the main influencing factor for the change in the size of Chinese government scholarship students.Based on empirical research on the influencing factors of Japanese students studying in China, the countermeasures and suggestions for further promoting the growth of Japanese students studying in China are as follows:firstly,to firmly adhere to the policy of good neighborly diplomacy and fully grasp the direction of Sino Japanese political relations;Secondly, based on the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Organization,we will strengthen bilateral economic and trade ties and promote education through economic cooperation; The third is to promote the high-quality development of higher education in China and reverse the "trade deficit" of studying abroad between China and Japan;Fourthly, increase the proportion of Chinese government scholarship students and optimize the structure of Japanese students studying in China;Fifth, expand the scale of Chinese cultural product exports to Japan and enhance cultural exchanges between the two countries;Sixth, improve the mechanism of joint efforts between government, enterprises, and schools to enhance the learning experience of international students coming to China. |
