| Zhu Shaoyu(1922-2008)was a renowned contemporary Chinese language educator.With his solid professional background,diligent work style,conscientious research attitude and scientific rigor,Mr.Zhu has made tremendous contributions to the development of language education in a landmark manner.The formation and development of Zhu Shaoyu’s thought on language education cannot be separated from the background of his social era,the background of his language discipline,and his personal experience in education and teaching practice.The changes of the times provided strong external support for his ideas on language education;the development of the discipline provided a source of motivation for his ideas on language education;and his long-term front-line teaching practice provided vivid examples for his ideas on language education.Zhu Shaoyu’s thought on language education mainly include four aspects:the view of language curriculum,the view of language teaching,the view of language teaching materials,and the view of language teachers.His view on Chinese language curriculum emphasizes that the nature of Chinese language curriculum is a composite of multiple properties,and it is necessary to fully implement the goal of comprehensive education in Chinese language curriculum.Reading teaching and writing teaching are important components of his Chinese language teaching philosophy.Reading teaching advocates teaching with questions as the link,students as the main body,language as the handle,various modes as the support,and extracurricular reading as the auxiliary,aiming to comprehensively improve students’ reading ability;Composition teaching advocates establishing reader awareness,emphasizing personalized expression,emphasizing close connection with life,adopting various training methods,and providing guidance throughout the process,aiming to establish a new writing teaching concept and improve students’writing skills.His view on Chinese language materials advocates paying attention to the culture of teaching materials,standardizing their preparation,and using them creatively.His view on Chinese language teachers advocates that teachers should be lifelong learners and research-oriented teachers.Zhu Shaoyu’s ideas on language education have important implications for current language education reform and educational practice.First,language curriculum reform should correctly grasp the multiple nature of language courses and give full play to the role of language courses in educating people in a comprehensive manner.Secondly,language teaching should focus on scientific methodological guidance,teachers should innovate the teaching mode when teaching reading,explore questioning strategies,and pay attention to students’ independent reading.In composition teaching,students should be guided to pay attention to life,use a variety of training methods,and implement sequential guidance.Once again,language teaching materials should be prepared with full respect for students’subjectivity,adapt to the changes of the times,fully explore the culture of language teaching materials,and use them creatively.Finally,language teachers should carry out research studies and improve their overall quality.Zhu Shaoyu has made significant contributions to the development of language education in China.Digging deeper into the background of the formation of his language education thought,studying the content of his language education thought,and exploring the relevance of his language education thought to contemporary language teaching practice will,to a certain extent,provide some reference for future researchers engaged in Zhu Shaoyu’s language education thought,and also provide some guidance to contemporary language teaching. |
