Revolutionary culture education is an important content of language teaching,and educating primary and secondary school students about revolutionary culture is necessary to implement the task of establishing moral education,as well as a requirement of language curriculum standards.However,there are still problems such as students’ low interest in reading revolutionary works and the unfamiliarity of revolutionary emotions.This study introduces empathy theory into the teaching of revolutionary cultural works,based on the basic elements of cognition,emotion and behavior contained in empathy,and carries out the teaching design of cultivating students’ empathy ability in The Red Star Over China from the three dimensions of empathy recognition,empathy understanding and empathy response,and puts the teaching design into practice,and summarizes the strategies of cultivating empathy ability on this basis.This study contains the following main aspects:(1)To understand the current situation of students’ empathy in reading the whole book "The Red Star Over China" and the reasons for it.The empathy scale was used to investigate students’ empathy in reading the whole book "The Red Star Over China" in three dimensions: empathy recognition,empathy understanding,and empathy response.The students were not able to express their emotions in a single form.(2)Teaching design for cultivating students’ empathy in "The Red Star Over China".According to the empathy theory,the teaching design is based on the basic elements of cognition,emotion and behavior contained in empathy,and the three dimensions of empathy recognition,empathy understanding and empathy response.(3)Summarize the teaching strategies for empathy development.After conducting teaching practice,the specific strategies for cultivating students’ empathy ability in The Red Star Over China were summarized,including focusing on introspective reflection to strengthen the identification of one’s own emotions,enhancing the identification of others’ emotions with the help of emotional communication;strengthening emotional cognition with the help of knowledge and experience,using role play to directly experience emotions,and boosting emotional climax through analysis and synthesis;creating activity contexts to stimulate the need for emotional expression,and Using cross-media resources to enrich the form of emotional expression six specific strategies.
