| Family education is increasingly valued by the state and society, and its importance and influence are gradually rising.Parents are gradually investing more in out-of-school education in addition to school education in order to provide their children with better academic development and employment prospects, resulting in phenomena such as educational involution, the schoolchild under parental pressure to perform well academically and the theatre effect.Whereas existing studies have focused more on monetary inputs, this study has included economic, time and emotional inputs. The extent of family investment in education reflects not only how much families invest in education, but also a microcosm of a country or region’s investment in education. An in-depth analysis of the current situation of family investment in education can not only optimise the content of family investment in education and change parents’ ideas about family investment in education, but also promote a healthy and balanced development of family investment in education. This study uses the questionnaire survey method. The questionnaire was revised by reviewing relevant research studies and combining the actual situation of the previous research to form the Questionnaire on the Current Situation of Family Education Input of Urban Primary School Students. The questionnaire covers four sections: basic family information, family education expenditure, family education expectations and parental involvement.A total of 2446 questionnaire samples were collected in this survey. After analyzing and processing the sample data several times,a total of 634 invalid samples were excluded and 1812 valid samples were retained, and the SPSSAU software was used to conduct relevant statistical analysis on the collected data.In addition, the study also used the interview method to conduct telephone interviews with a total of 11 parents of primary school students.Through the statistical analysis of the findings,it was found that the main problems in the family education investment of parents of primary school students in S city were academic development-oriented,excessive spending on shadow education and a mismatch between the quality of shadow education and the spending, the low level of father’s presence with their children, difficulties in parent-child communication, and simple and low frequency of parent-child communication. The main reasons for this type of family investment in education are parents’ educational anxiety, their high expectations of their children’s grades and qualifications, and the fact that the quality of education in school-based interest classes does not meet parents’ needs. The proposed strategies to solve the problem include strengthening the regulation of the education market and increasing public education expenditure;creating socially beneficial institutions;improving the quality of in-school teaching and optimising after-school services;conducting lectures and publicity on family education investment;promoting free and high-quality education service platforms in the Internet;optimising the concept and methods of family education investment;adjusting the financial expenditure on family education in a scientific and rational manner;and building new types of education cooperation relationships. |
