A Study On The Reflexive Construction Of The Body And Its Paradox

The rapid development of the economy and society has created the basic conditions for human beings to focus on themselves and to search for the meaning of life.With the breaking down of the mind-body dichotomy,the body has become increasingly prominent in sociological research and is becoming an integral part of sociological research.As the link between the individual and society,the body is subject to a double construction from both individual and society.Today,there is a growing trend towards health management among young people,and a different model of body construction is emerging.They maintain a healthy body through various means,but at the same time,in the process of maintenance,they engage in unhealthy behaviours and emphasizing themselves in conflict.Why is health management as a "sunset activity" so popular with young people? And why does this conflict arise?This study is based on theories such as ‘self-identity’ and ‘field’.Firstly,a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews are used to obtain data to describe the current situation of body construction among the youth group.Furthermore,the reasons and social roots behind the phenomenon are explored through the analysis of documentary theory.Firstly,the current state of the construction of the body in youth groups.Data and information show that the construction of the body by young people presents a conflicting posture of both maintenance and indulgence.On this basis,the article develops a specific analysis of the causes.Secondly,the youth group’s reflexive process of body construction.The study found that the health management behaviours of the youth group is a specific tendency to treat the body in an interactive way,influenced by society.This process constructs the field of health management.At the same time,individuals reinforce their body-shaping tendencies and achieve self-identity in their self-reflexivity towards their bodies.Third,the causes and social roots of the paradox of health management in youth groups.The conflict behaviours originates from the choice of the youth group,which not only reflects the appropriation of time and space of the individual under the penetration of social power,but also the manifestation of youth symbols.The body is indeterminate and youth groups are always seeking identity in reflection.Through sociological research methods,health management is used as an example to gain insight into the relationship between society and the individual.It is also hoped that this study will enrich the research on the behaviours of youth groups.
