The Influence Of Social Support On The Intergenerational Rearing Behavior Of Rural Grandparents

The grandparents of Chinese rural inter-generational families are influenced by traditional thinking,and it is natural to assume the responsibility of taking care of housework and grandchildren for a long time.When encountering difficulties,they spend less time communicating with the outside world or seeking help,leading to rural grandparents.The level of social support is relatively low;secondly,since grandparents’ parenting experience and methods need to be updated,it is inevitable that problems such as outdated parenting methods,weak sense of parenting ability,and insufficient parenting motives will inevitably occur in the process of caring for and raising grandchildren.The increase in the level of social support may to a certain extent improve the active response of rural grandparents’ external parenting methods and internal parenting.Therefore,this study explores the impact of rural grandparents’ social support on parenting by in-depth understanding of the social support and parenting behavior of rural grandparents.The influence of behavior is expected to provide a strong theoretical basis and reference suggestions for the government,schools,village committees,etc.to improve the level of social support for rural grandparents through different channels and to improve the inter-generational parenting method of rural grandparents.Under the guidance of Marx’s theory of human nature and social capital theory,this research uses social support rating scale,simplified parenting style scale,parental upbringing ability scale,and self-compiled parenting motivation questionnaire as survey tools.A total of 373 households with grandparents and grandchildren in the fourth,fifth,and sixth grades of the H primary school in H town,and the seventh,eighth,and ninth grades of the H middle school were investigated and studied.Grasp the status of social support and parenting behavior of rural grandparents,analyze the impact of social support on the parenting behavior of rural grandparents,and take corresponding measures to improve the level of social support of rural grandparents based on the research conclusions,so as to optimize the way rural grandparents raise their grandchildren.The sense of parenting ability and the motivation of parenting.The study found:(1)Social support.The level of subjective social support of rural grandparents is higher,while the level of objective support and utilization of support is lower.In terms of gender,the objective support level of grandfathers is higher than that of grandmothers;in terms of age,grandparents under 60 are generally in good physical condition,and the overall level of social support is higher than that of grandparents in the age range of 60-70 and 71-90;In terms of education level and physical condition,the higher the education level and the better the physical condition,the more social support the grandparents get.(2)In terms of parenting behavior.First of all,in terms of gender,grandmothers are more likely to use warm parenting methods than grandfathers.In terms of age,older grandparents are more likely to over-intervene their grandchildren;in terms of education level and physical condition,they are more likely to use warm parenting methods.The higher the degree and the better the physical condition,the easier it is for grandparents to adopt warm methods.Second,in the sense of parenting ability of rural grandparents,in terms of gender,women’s satisfaction is higher than that of men;in terms of age,grandparents in the age range of 48-60 years old are more effective than grandparents aged 60-70 and 71-90;in terms of education On the one hand,the higher the education level,the stronger the sense of efficacy of grandparents;in terms of physical condition,the better the physical condition,the greater the satisfaction and sense of efficacy.Finally,among the motives of rural grandparents,most grandparents are reluctant to take the initiative to take care of their grandchildren,and their willingness to raise their grandchildren is weak.In terms of gender,female ancestors are more strongly willing than men;in terms of age,older ancestors have lower willingness;in terms of educational level and physical condition,ancestors with higher education level and better physical condition The stronger the willingness is.(3)In terms of the impact of social support on parenting behavior.First of all,social support has a predictive effect on parenting behaviors(bringing style,sense of parenting ability,parenting motivation).Among them,social support has a positive predictive effect on the emotional warmth dimension of parenting behavior in parenting behavior,and has a positive predictive effect on the dimensions of rejection and over-protection.It has a negative predictive effect;it has a positive predictive effect on the sense of efficacy and satisfaction in the sense of parenting ability;it has a positive predictive effect on the direction of willingness and the intensity of willingness in the sense of parenting motivation.Secondly,the sense of parenting ability and parenting motivation play a part of the mediating role in the influence of social support on parenting styles.Based on the findings and conclusions of this article,this research has given relevant suggestions on building and strengthening the social support network system,strengthening home-school interaction,and government and other relevant departments to increase social support channels,with a view to improving the level of social support for rural ancestors and rural villages.The optimization of grandparents’ inter-generational parenting behavior(parenting style,sense of parenting ability,parenting motivation)will provide certain help.
