| With the development of society, mobile phones have become popular in rural areas and have become an important part of people’s daily life.In recent years, the use of mobile phones has gradually shown a trend of younger age, especially in the context of the current COVID-19 epidemic, rural children need to use mobile phones and other electronic products for Internet classes, which to some extent increases the opportunities and time for children to use mobile phones, and the phenomenon of children playing with mobile phones can be seen everywhere in rural areas. However, while mobile phones provide richer educational resources and diverse entertainment options, they also bring the problem of over-dependence on mobile phones among rural children. This mobile phone dependence not only endangers the physical and mental health of rural children, but also has a negative impact on their learning and life.In this study,we investigated the mobile phone dependence of rural children in village X of Zaoyang City,Hubei Province through a questionnaire, and analyzed the current situation of mobile phone dependence of rural children in five dimensions: daily interference, withdrawal symptoms, network intimacy, overuse, and tolerance. Then,we analyzed the causes of mobile phone dependence among rural children in this area through interviews and combined with ecosystem theory, and found that the microscopic level was mainly due to children’s irrational cognition and poor self-control,the mesoscopic level was mainly due to poor family education and insufficient peer group support, and the macroscopic level was due to the lack of self-sufficiency of entertainment in rural communities.Based on the above findings, this study mainly used group work method to conduct practical interventions for rural children with mobile phone dependence.First, eight group members were identified through recruitment and screening, and their needs were assessed through interviews;second, seven sessions of group activities were designed and conducted by combining cognitive-behavioral theory and the needs of the group members;finally, through the process evaluation, outcome evaluation, and follow-up evaluation of the group,it was found that the degree of mobile phone dependence of the group members was reduced,as evidenced by a decrease in the scores of the Smartphone Dependence Scale of the group members. The scores on the Smartphone Dependence Scale decreased.Through the group work interventions with children in Village X who had mobile phone dependence problems, the study concluded that the group work approach helped to reduce the level of mobile phone dependence of rural children, the adjustment of unreasonable cognition was the key to reduce the level of mobile phone dependence of rural children, and family support and peer support helped to reduce the level of mobile phone dependence of rural children. At the same time, this study also reflected on the group work intervention and made suggestions to solve the problem of mobile phone dependence among rural children. |
