As a new industry in the mobile Internet era, food delivery has a huge domestic demand market. The occupational advantages of low threshold and high income attract a large number of young people to flock to the city and become food delivery riders in the city. However, problems such as difficulties in protecting labour rights, unreasonable work appraisal systems and a single social support network have also surfaced, leaving riders under greater work pressure than traditional workers and bringing negative physical, psychological and behavioural effects to them. This paper takes Q-site delivery riders as the research target and focuses on the process and methods of reciprocal model group work to alleviate the work stress of delivery riders under the guidance of social support theory.Through a questionnaire survey and semi-structured interviews with Q-site delivery riders,it was found that delivery riders suffer from high levels of work stress, which is manifested in physical, psychological and behavioural aspects;combined with an investigation of the sources of work stress among riders,it was found that the causes of work stress among riders specifically include difficulties in protecting rights and interests, harsh platform regulation, lack of respect for labour and a single social support network.Based on the above survey and analysis, this paper, under the perspective of social support theory, designed a stress reduction reciprocity group service programme, combining the needs of the group members and providing them with emotional support, cognitive support and behavioural support during the group activities,to help them relieve work stress, establish a stable support network of colleagues, clarify their career planning and enhance their confidence and ability to face work stress. At the end of the group activities, the effectiveness of the service was evaluated from the perspectives of the group members, social workers and others, and the experience was summarised and reflected upon. The study found that the group members’ stress scores decreased after the reciprocal group intervention, and that they were more likely to form supportive relationships with each other as a result of both social support theory and the reciprocal model. However, there were also problems such as insufficient personalised attention to the group members, inadequate social support interventions and inadequate service continuity. The paper concludes by suggesting that a combination of social work approaches should be used to improve the social support network for delivery riders and provide stress relief continuity services for the riders.
