Prose is a genre of narrative literature that expresses the author’s true feelings and is flexible in its writing style.The teaching of prose can help students initially experience the charm of language,improve their language skills and explore the philosophy of life.In recent years,the teaching of contemporary prose in junior secondary schools has received widespread attention from language education researchers and language teachers.A study on the teaching strategies of descriptive techniques in junior high school contemporary prose can identify the problems that exist in the teaching of junior high school contemporary prose and propose corresponding solutions,so as to promote the improvement and enhancement of junior high school contemporary prose teaching.Through reviewing and sorting out the relevant literature,it is found that the literature on teaching strategies of descriptive techniques in junior high school contemporary prose is not in-depth and lacks relevance.Therefore,this thesis is a study on the teaching strategies of descriptive techniques in junior high school contemporary and modern prose,in an attempt to put forward some pedagogical suggestions and inspirations for frontline teachers’ teaching,which is of practical significance.There are two main questions that need to be addressed in this study: firstly,what are the types of present contemporary prose descriptive devices in junior high school,and secondly,what are the common teaching strategies for present contemporary prose descriptive devices in junior high school.The main sources of data and samples in the study were the unified language textbooks and provincial and ministerial-level examples of excellent lessons,respectively.Firstly,the text analysis method was used to count and sort out the descriptive techniques in 32 modern and contemporary prose texts in the unified textbook,and to summarise the distribution and frequency of various descriptive techniques in different grades and texts,so as to clarify the focus of descriptive techniques and lay the foundation for this thesis to study the teaching strategies of descriptive techniques.Finally,by reflecting deeply on the process of teaching descriptive techniques in contemporary prose,the thesis summarises the problems in teaching descriptive techniques in contemporary prose in junior high school and puts forward corresponding suggestions for improvement.On the basis of the collation and analysis of the survey data,the following conclusions can be drawn based on the above study.(1)The descriptive techniques in junior secondary contemporary prose are divided into character description,scene description and description of scenes according to the object of description,among which teachers mostly focus on character description and scene description in their teaching,while scene description is less involved.(2)The teaching strategies for character description include intensive text reading,reading and appreciation,scenario interpretation and practice feedback strategies.The same strategy is used slightly differently in the teaching of different depictions.At present,the teaching strategies used in the excellent lessons are over-analysed,with a patterned approach to interpretation;practice feedback is solidified,with a lack of individuality in expression;and the use of strategies is simplistic,lacking in hierarchy and progression.Improvements can be made by analysing the text rationally and encouraging diverse interpretations;improving the form of exercises and focusing on individualisation of students;and differentiating the use of strategies according to students’ levels in a hierarchical manner.
