Estimation is an important content in primary school mathematics teaching and an important part of mathematical calculation.In recent years,it has been paid more and more attention by mathematics education circle.Estimation ability has become an important part of primary school mathematics teaching at this stage,and the cultivation of estimation ability is helpful to improve students’ mathematical literacy.Estimation is widely used in daily life and mathematics learning,which is of great value to developing students’ estimation ability and good number sense.By combing the literature related to estimation and the mathematics textbook of Qingdao edition(2017),the author determines An Action Research on the Cultivation of Pupils’ Estimation Ability in the teaching of "Operation of Numbers" in Primary Schools as the research topic.Through the pre-test survey,it is found that there are problems in the estimation ability of fourth graders in primary school.Based on the pre-test survey results,the teaching design is carried out to cultivate students’ estimation ability from the aspects of estimation consciousness,estimation skills and using estimation methods to solve practical problems.According to the design of action research,carry out the implementation of action research.The process of action research is carried out from the following four aspects: the first is to investigation the pretest questionnaire and analyze it;Second,the first round of action research was carried out with the teaching of "Three-digit Multiplied by Two-digit Estimation" as an example,interview peer teachers in time after implementation and improve teaching design;Third,the second round of action research was carried out with the teaching of " Estimation of division by a Two-digit Divisor." as an example;The fourth is to test the effect of action research by analyzing the results of post-test questionnaire and interview.The following research findings and action suggestions are obtained by sorting out and analyzing the data and conducting in-depth discussion and reflection.The findings are as follows: First,presenting the problem before choosing estimation strategy can realize the cultivation of students’ estimation consciousness.The second is to realize the value of estimation is conducive to the cultivation of estimation ability;Third,guide students to optimize algorithms,which is conducive to cultivating students’ estimation skills.Suggestions for action: The first is to create life situation estimation questions,let students experience the value of estimation;Second,guide students to think and communicate,and optimize estimation methods;Third,attach importance to estimation practice and improve students’ estimation ability;Fourth,flexible use of number axis to solve estimation problems.
