In order to thoroughly implement the spirit of the 19 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19 th CPC Central Committee,effectively improve the level of school education,continuously standardize after-school training,and effectively reduce the excessive homework burden and after-school training burden of students in the stage of compulsory education,the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the office of the State Council issued the opinions on further reducing the homework burden and after-school training burden of students in the stage of compulsory education on July 24,2021.The opinions points out that schools should make full use of their resource advantages,effectively implement various after-school education activities,and meet the diversified learning needs of students in schools.HPS education model is a mainstream teaching model in the international science education community.It advocated understanding science from the three-dimensional perspectives of history,philosophy and sociology,and has been widely used in science education classrooms in western countries.Although the value of HPS education has been widely recognized in China,before the promulgation of the "double reduction policy",the implementation of HPS education faced many difficulties and challenges due to the lack of special activity time in the basic school education system.This study is committed to the application of HPS education in after-school service.In the practice of biology after-school service in junior middle school,it creatively introduces and applies the content of HPS education,designs and carries out HPS popular science after-school service activities,shows students the scientific research process and scientific methods of biological scientists,and explores the relationship between science,technology and society.In the HPS popular science after-school service,students can have the opportunity to understand the knowledge behind the knowledge,discover the formation process of scientific knowledge,better understand the principles and methods of use,and experience the innovative spirit and persistent pursuit of truth of scientists,so as to improve their rational thinking and scientific inquiry skills and promote the achievement of biological core literacy.Therefore,integrating HPS education into after-school services not only meets the requirements of the current double reduction policy,but also enriches the form of "after-school time" education.This study is a practical application research.The first part is the theoretical and methodological research,including the definition of the concept of HPS education and after-school service and the combing of its research status and research results,and explores and discusses the theoretical basis and activity design methodology of HPS popular science after-school service activities;The second part is the investigation and analysis,which carries out questionnaire survey and interview with 110 teachers in the province to understand and analyze the teachers’ attitudes and views on the application of HPS education in after-school service,and takes it as the basis of the research;The third part is the application practice.Based on theoretical research,methodological research and investigation and analysis,three interrelated advanced thematic activities are designed and implemented.The activity objectives of the three special activity cases conform to the curriculum standards,and their contents are close to the teaching materials and life.Including what is life(the development and evolution of the outlook on life),Darwin’s three "friends"(the scientific history of evolution theory)and whether human beings will evolve(the discussion on the social issues of contemporary biotechnology).It involves group discussion,role play,reading seminar,debate and other forms of activities,and the three activities are interrelated.The latter is the progression of the former,which is systematic to a certain extent.This study provides a reference case for the development of after-school biology service activities in junior middle school based on HPS education,and summarizes the development methods of HPS popular science after-school service activities for migration and application.
