Abstract/Summary:
The current unified primary language textbooks are organised along two lines:’humanistic themes’ and ’language elements’,and the content of the units is highly interrelated.This means that teachers must not only be aware of the whole unit,but also use appropriate teaching strategies to guide students in mastering and applying common reading methods,in order to ensure the quantity and quality of their reading and ultimately improve their core language skills.Theme-based teaching is one of the most effective teaching modes to effectively stimulate students’ interest in reading and improve their reading efficiency.Using thematic teaching in reading teaching not only optimises and develops the reading teaching model,but also integrates quality curriculum resources to make reading teaching more effective.This study combines theme teaching with primary school language reading teaching.Using the literature research method,action research method and case study method,it digs deeper into the connotations of theme teaching and concludes that theme teaching has many characteristics such as integration of curriculum content,integration of curriculum resources and cooperation between teachers and students.These characteristics not only fit in with the layout of the unified version of primary school language teaching materials,but also enhance the effectiveness of classroom teaching in terms of improving teaching methods,clarifying teaching objectives and enriching teaching contents.Combined with the principles of theme teaching application,strategies for the use of theme teaching in primary language reading teaching are proposed,mainly including: theme delineation strategies,classroom implementation strategies,and evaluation strategies.In order to further elaborate on the issues,the final chapter of this study is designed to provide a sample of the design of theme-based teaching in primary school reading.In the current context,language subjects not only focus on students’ accumulation of knowledge,but also place higher demands on students’ ability to handle texts.The theme-based teaching is applied to primary school language reading teaching,with a view to making a modest contribution to building an efficient language classroom and improving students’ ability to handle texts.
