| At the end of December 2019,the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council issued "Several Opinions on Reducing the Burden of Primary and Secondary School Teachers and Further Creating a Good Environment for Education and Teaching",which formulated specific measures for reducing the workload for teachers who work at primary and secondary school. At the same time, suitable opinions or notices have been issued around many regions to further implement the spirit of the Opinions,so teachers’ burden reduction has become a hot topic of social concern. In this paper, the workload of teachers in six junior high schools in the D District of Y City was studied by means of questionnaires and interviews to understand the current situation of teachers’ workload and its changes in the context of the implementation of the burden reduction policy, and to discuss the reasons for the heavy workload of junior high school teachers and to put forward strategies for appropriate regulation of the burden. The survey found that the workload of teachers in six junior high schools in the D District of Y City is still heavy,so the effect of the burden reduction policy needs to be improved. The specific situation is that teachers work for a long time, they need to take on heavy workloads of teaching preparation, research and assessment and face great pressure.Based on Job Demand-control theory, this paper discusses the reasons for the heavy workload of middle school teachers through both correlation analysis and regression analysis, and concludes that the causes at the job demand level include: lack of supervision in policy implementation, formalization of school education reform, inefficient internal management, and unreasonable assessment and evaluation mechanisms for teachers. The causes at the level of job control include:insufficient support provided by schools, teachers’ low awareness of self-adjustment,conflict of multiple roles for teachers, and teachers’ weak ability to cope with complicated work. This paper proposes strategies to adjust the workload of middle school teachers in the D District of Y City from two aspects: ’reduction of teachers’ workload’ and’improvement of teacher’s ability’.Firstly, with regard to ’reduction of teachers’ workload’,the local government should strictly implement the list of burden reduction and strengthen the dynamic monitoring of teachers’ workload, while schools should promote educational reforms scientifically and rationally, optimize assessment and evaluation systems for teachers, and improve the efficiency of school internal management.Secondly,in terms of ’improvement of teacher’s ability ’,schools need to provide teachers with more resources and appropriate support, and teachers need to develop a sense of lifelong learning to adapt to their multiple roles, and they should improve their work methods to increase efficiency and strengthen self-regulation.This paper provides some reference for school administrators to reduce the workload of teachers by studying the workload of middle school teachers, and also allows school administrators to pay attention to the rational arrangement of teachers’ work and to develop appropriate management mechanisms.Meanwhile, this paper provides a guide for teachers to adjust their workload, allows primary and secondary school teachers to re-examine their current working methods and carry out efficient educational and teaching activities. |
