Extracurricular time is an important education part for junior middle school students in rural boarding system.The extracurricular time management ability of boarding junior school students directly affects the development of students’ comprehensive quality and various abilities,as well as their physical and mental health.Therefore,how to improve the extracurricular time management ability of junior school students in rural boarding system now becomes an important subject.Time management is a process in which students adopts some strategies and techniques to allocate,monitor and prioritize time,handle disturbance and assess feedbacks by setting a goal and a plan based on the stable emotions,attitudes and values about the functions and value of time.Considering the specificity of junior middle school students in rural boarding system,the research defines their extracurricular time as the break time between classes and the “time in school” after school every day.Extracurricular time management ability is the subjective consciousness and skills students need to plan and organize extracurricular time,including two dimensions-consciousness of extracurricular time management and acts of extracurricular time management and seven factors-emotional experience,value identification,plan making,time allocation,prioritization,disturbance handling and feedbacks assessment.In order to conduct an investigation and research on the five boarding junior middle schools in Q Prefecture,Shandong,the research has prepared a questionnaire by referring to relevant tools.It is found in the research that the extracurricular time management ability of junior middle school students in rural boarding system is at the lower level of “B” interval.Overall,the consciousness of extracurricular time management is stronger than acts of extracurricular time management;the ranking of seven factors of extracurricular time management ability from high to low is prioritization,value identification,time allocation,emotional experience,feedbacks assessment,disturbance handling and plan making.Specifically,first,students have good consciousness of extracurricular time management,but the inner elements are not balanced and the consciousness of extracurricular time management is not at the same level of acts of extracurricular time management.Second,the whole level of extracurricular time management ability and the level of all factors are low.Third,extracurricular time management ability is very different in gender and academic level.For example,female students have better extracurricular time management ability than male students,the students with the grades of high level have better extracurricular time management than those with the grades of middle level,and the students with the grades of middle level have better extracurricular time management ability than those with the grades of low level.In addition,extracurricular time management ability is not different in grade.The problems of junior middle school students in rural boarding system in extracurricular time management ability can be attributed to subjective factors and objective factors.The subjective factors are weak consciousness of self-management,weak consciousness of extracurricular time management,lack of reasonable extracurricular time management plan and strategy and lack of self-examination and assessment.For objective factors,first,these schools have not paid enough attention to the development of students’ extracurricular time management ability and their time system pursues time efficiency and lacks the training relating to time management.Besides,these students’ parents don’t have professional time management skills and methods or provide the guidance of time management for their kids.The development of extracurricular time management ability among junior middle school students in rural boarding system requires the efforts from multiple parties.Students should strengthen the subject consciousness of development of extracurricular time management ability,build the correct consciousness of extracurricular time management,improve the acts of extracurricular time planning,adjust the acts of monitoring of extracurricular time,strengthen the assessment of extracurricular time management ability.Schools should exert their function of dominance in the development of extracurricular time management ability and build a time system suitable for the development of life,carry out differential management aiming at different variables and actively hold the training relating to the development of extracurricular time management ability.Teachers should improve their guidance level of development of extracurricular time management ability,learn the knowledge and methods about time management,cultivate students’ ability of extracurricular time management and regulate the pace of education and teaching.Parents should cooperate with schools in the development of extracurricular time management ability of their kids,improve their cognition about development of time management ability of their kids and cooperate with schools in the guidance of their kids in time management.Extracurricular time management ability is a comprehensive project,which not only requires students to pay attention to the improvement of their own extracurricular time management ability,but also needs the guidance and cooperation of schools,teachers and parents.Only by systematically and comprehensively promoting the training of students’ extracurricular time management ability can we really improve of students’ extracurricular time management ability.
