In February 2021,the Ministry of Education issued the "Guide to Incorporating Revolutionary Traditions into the Curriculum and Teaching Materials of Primary and Secondary Schools",which clearly states that "students should be guided to carry forward the Party’s fine style of self-reliance and hard work,cultivate the spirit of self-improvement and hardship,and train the spirit of struggle that dares to take responsibility".It can be seen that the national level attaches great importance to cultivating the spirit of self-improvement,but in today’s academic world,papers on cultivating the spirit of self-improvement among secondary school students are rare,which indicates that cultivating the spirit of self-improvement among secondary school students has not yet attracted enough attention and discussion.At the same time,the current Chinese family structure is mostly a 4-2-1 structure,and students tend to form the habit of relying on their parents for everything,and their self-improvement spirit needs to be strengthened.Moreover,at a time when China is rising and facing various crises at home and abroad,junior high school students,as Chinese citizens,tend to live in peace but do not think enough of danger.The history textbooks of junior high school are rich in teaching content about the spirit of self-improvement,which is conducive to the cultivation of the spirit of self-improvement.Cultivating the spirit of self-improvement in junior high school students is conducive to stimulating students’ struggle during the critical period of forming values,thus accumulating reserves for the realization of the Chinese dream of great rejuvenation and the prosperity of their hometowns,implementing the national policy of educating people through moral education,and cultivating students’ core literacy.The first part of this paper is based on the connotation of the spirit of self-improvement,the definition of the spirit of self-improvement,and then the feasibility and necessity of cultivating the spirit of self-improvement.In the second part,the author analyzes the current situation of cultivating the spirit of self-improvement in junior high school history teaching by means of questionnaires and interviews,taking two junior high schools in Korqin District of Tongliao City as examples,and analyzes the problems as follows: teachers emphasize knowledge rather than education;the use of teaching methods other than lecture method should be strengthened;students are passive learners.The third part proposes practical strategies and illustrates them with examples for better cultivating the spirit of self-improvement in junior high school history teaching,as follows: infiltrating the spirit of self-improvement with the help of multimedia;promoting the spirit of self-improvement with the help of sitcoms;perceiving the spirit of self-improvement with the help of daily life contents;using historical teaching materials to cultivate the spirit of self-improvement;creating a relaxed environment and changing the evaluation mechanism to cultivate the innovative spirit of self-improvement.The fourth part is a complete teaching design with the example of Lesson 18 "The Incident of September 18 to the Xi’an Incident" in the first book of Grade 8 of the Ministry of Education,which explores the cultivation of the spirit of self-improvement in practice. |
