Proactive Personality And Hearing-Impaired College Students’ Employability

Employability has been a hot topic in the field of career research in recent years.The development level of college students’ employability will directly affect their employment.Under the circumstance of serious employment problems,college students with hearing impairment have to improve their knowledge and abilities to prepare for their future career choice.This research investigated the employment status of hearingimpaired college students and discussed its influencing factors,in order to provide reference opinions on career development and employment guidance for this group.The subjects in this study were 600 college students from 8 universities in mainland China,including 253 boys and 347 girls.The Proactive Personality Scale,the Employability Scale,the Career Adapt-ability Scale-China form,and the Parental Career-related behaviors were adopted.This study aims to investigate the current situation of the employability of hearing-impaired college students and the influence mechanism of proactive personality on employability.Using SPSS25.0,AMOS22.0 and MPLUS8.3 to analyze the data,the results objectively reflect the current status of hearing impaired college students’ employability,and further analyze the influence of proactive personality on employability of this group.The research results are as follows:(1)The employability of hearing-impaired college students is at the lower-middle level.(2)The proactive personality of hearing-impaired college students can significantly positively predict employability.(3)Career adaptability mediates the effect of the proactive personality on employability of college students with hearing impairment,and there are significant grade differences in the mediating effect.(4)Parents’ career-related behaviors moderate the the mediation of career adaptability between proactive personality and employability,and there are also significant grade differences in the moderating effect.For non-graduating college students,the mediation effect of career adaptability would be stronger if they get more support from their parents.For graduating college students,the mediation effect of career adaptability would be weak if their parents lack of engagement.Throughtout the result of this study,some proposals are made for college students、universities and parents.(1)college students with hearing impairment should accurately judge their own strengths and weaknesses,make full use of various practical opportunities to explore and understand their career interests and actively master the skills and information resources needed for career development.(2)It is necessary for universities to set up career counseling courses to provide hearing-impaired college students with a variety of social practice opportunities,and moreover,universities should carry out specialized career counseling program to answer concerns of this group in career development and inform them some ways to master career development skills.(3)The results of this study fully affirmed the important role of parental support in career development of hearing-impaired college students,and also proved the negative impact of lacking of engagement.Therefore,parents of hearing-impaired college students should play an active role in their children’s career development,and provide children with diversified support and assistance as much as possible.
