Comparative Analysis On The Application Of Pick And Roll Between Chinese Women’s Basketball Team And Strong Teams In Tokyo Olympic Games Qualifiers In 2021

The pick-and-roll cooperation is one of the most important forms of cooperation in basketball offense.Its advantage lies in the ability to use the body of a teammate as a block to get rid of the defender more efficiently.After a long time of development of basketball,now the characteristics of offensive and defensive tactics and athletes’athletic abilities such as strength and conditioning,skills,tactics,and mental abilities have made great progress,and the use of pick-and-roll cooperation by teams in the new era environment also shows diversified and special characteristics.Therefore,it is necessary to analyze the development trend of the use of the pick-and-roll in today’s basketball from a new perspective.Based on use of the pick and roll situation eight teams which qualify the 2021 Tokyo Olympics in the third phase of qualifying for the Tokyo Olympic Games as the research object.Mainly use the method of literature study,video observation,mathematical statistics.The research conclusions of this paper are as follows:1.Set offense is still the main stage of the attack in the match.The pick-and-roll cooperation is the common offensive cooperation in the set play of this match,which is used in more than 60%of the set offense attacks,and the scores of each team using the pick-and-roll exceed 30%of the average points of the set play.The ball holder passes the ball after P&R accounts for 70%of individual attack forms,while the screener deals with the ball after P&R less than the number of moves without the ball.The screener usually shoot after receiving the ball from ball handler.The spatiotemporal characteristics of the pick-and-roll are that the pick-and-roll occurs at the inner high area between 9 and 16 seconds,and the frequency of both of them is more than half of their respective indexes,while the players mainly shoot in the restricted area after P&R.The personnel combinations involved in the pick-and-roll cooperation are mainly guard-forward and guard-center,but there are also various special personnel combinations;The regular one-man screen and the screen after pass are the main forms of screen and roll in this tournament,other forms of pick and roll appear less frequently;The analysis of the success rate between the secondary indexes shows that the center players who shoot less times after P&R,but the success rate is higher.And players who shoot in the restricted area after P&R are more likely to score or get a foul.2.In this match,there are significant differences between the Chinese team and some teams in the three indicators of the screener pop out,the ball carrier passing the screen player and driving layup;There is a significant difference among Chinese team and Belgium and Canada in the use of pick-and-roll in the middle high area;There is a significant difference in using the pick-and-roll in the 17-24 seconds period among Chinese team and other teams except Serbia;There are significant differences with some teams in the use of guard-guard,guard-forward and forward-forward combination times,and there are significant differences with other teams except Canada in the shooting times of forwards;There are significant differences with some teams in the use of double P&R and screen after pass;There is a significant difference in the third player move without the ball on the weak side after P&R between Chinese team and some teams.This is in the team’s tactical idea and the player’s individual ability and other factors under the comprehensive effect of the result.3.The number of pick-and-roll used by each team per game presents a cluster distribution,but the teams in each cluster use pick-and-roll to show their own style.China tends to be traditional in personnel allocation,with guards playing a leading role in pick-and-roll.The United States team has strong individual ability and uses more regular single block.Serbia team mainly passes after P&R and less attack directly,more times of pivoting.Canada has strong ability to use pick-and-roll to create shot opportunities,which is similar to the style of the American team and has more regular P&R.Australia own players with great ability,showing the characteristics of everyone can pick and roll,they attack restricted area after P&R more times.Spain relies on the horn formation,ranks first in points per game when it uses pick-and-rolls,and guards as screener participate in pick-and-roll most.The French use of pick-and-roll has comprehensiveness,showing that the pick-and-roll occurs in a wide area and in various forms.Belgium regards forward and guard as the core and use pick-and-roll with strong mobility,but they use pick-and-roll more as a transitional tactics,reorganizing more after P&R.On the whole,it shows that the third player on the weak side receives more times after P&R,systematic pick-and-roll tactics are common,and partial pick-and-roll coordination is carried out.
