The people’s trust and support for the government are related to economic development and social stability, and the people’s hearts are the greatest politics. At the stage of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era,the party leading the people of the country has achieved absolute poverty through precision poverty alleviation and steady development, and has achieved the great feat of eliminating absolute poverty and entering the comprehensive well-off.It is moving towards the grand goal of common prosperity. The income of urban and rural residents in my country has steadily increased, the living standards have increased significantly, and the government’s trust and support rate have also reached a new level. The new development stage has greater opportunities and more difficult challenges. At present, the income gap between the regions, urban and rural areas and its internal income is still at a high level. The differences in urban and rural areas are large. The expansion of rural income gap will adversely affect the local economic and social development, and also challenges the credibility of the local government. There are more research on the relationship between regional, urban and rural differences, and government trust. However, from the perspective of internal income gap in rural areas, the study of the relationship between income gap and local government trust is still unknown. So,will the gap between the internal income of rural areas affect the trust of the local government? Does the two have a deeper logical relationship?Answering these questions is under the stage of new development, improving the relatively poor rural areas, promoting common prosperity, achieving higher quality development in the countryside, and further improving the credibility and management service capabilities of local governments. This article first reviews the relevant documents such as income gap, government trust, and income gaps and government trust relationships, and find the existing research on existing research can expand space and the theoretical basis required for this article.Secondly, based on rational selection of institutionalism, relative deprivation theory, and the theory of new public service theory, this article discusses the relationship and mechanism of trust and role in the trust of rural income and local governments, and proposes relevant research hypothesis. On this basis, this article adopts CFPS in 2014,2016 and 2018 a total of 13104 rural residents’ data.Based on the two-way fixed effect model and intermediary effect model analyze. The study of this article found that(1)On average, the per capita disposable income of rural families in my country is 0.370,which is close to the international warning line0.4,which is at a high level. On the other hand, the level of trust in local governments in rural residents is generally higher.(2)The greater the gap between rural income, the lower the level of trust in the local government. The conclusion is still established after replacing the interpretable variables, replacement of core interpretation variables, replacement samples, tool variable return, and leakage variable sensitivity analysis.(3)The expansion of the gap between the internal income of rural areas will enhance the sense of the rich and the poor of rural residents, thereby weakening its level of trust in local governments.(4)The negative impact of rural income gaps on local government trust is more significant in rural residents’ groups with low health, low education level, low interpersonal trust level, low social security perception, and low government integrity perception.Based on the reality background and research conclusions, this article proposes policy suggestions as follows to improve the gap between rural income and enhance the trust of the local government:(1)Continue to improve the distribution system, reduce the gap between the internal income of rural areas, and enhance the level of trust in local governments in rural residents.(2)Promote the construction of a clean government and cadres in the integrity of local governments, and reduce the negative impact of rural income gaps on the trust of local governments.(3)Continue to reduce the differences in urban and rural areas, continuously enhance the rise of rural residents, and actively create a more equal and fair social atmosphere.(4)Improve the level of public management and services in the government, continuously strengthen the health guarantee, education guarantee, and social security of rural residents, and promote the construction of harmonious rural areas.
