Research On The Political Process And Influence Of The LGBTQ+ Movement In The United States | | Posted on:2024-04-03 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:W H Ye | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2556307154982299 | Subject:Foreign political system | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | The history of the LGBTQ+ movement in the United States dates back to the early20 th century,but the most influential and large-scale phase occurred in the late 1960 s to the present.In the past decade,the LGBTQ+ movement in the United States has made significant progress,from legalizing same-sex marriage to increasing support for the rights of transgender people,and LGBTQ+ people have gained more rights and protections than ever before.However,as the LGBTQ+ movement has grown,so has the amount of opposition that has emerged.Conservative groups and religious groups have organized massive antiLGBTQ+ campaigns in an attempt to overturn the gains the LGBTQ+ rights movement has made and to limit further reforms in the future.The intersection of the two movements has also,to some extent,influenced and constrained the policy choices of the U.S.government.Under the influence of these two forces,U.S.politics and society are facing an increasingly torn and antagonistic situation,and political polarization has become synonymous with U.S.politics.From the party system to the federal system,the American political system has also been influenced by the multiple influences of the movement.In addition,with the advancement of globalization,the rights of LGBTQ+ have become one of the important human rights issues and have been included in the U.S.foreign policy agenda.The United States considers itself the leader and advocate of the world LGBTQ+ movement.However,the U.S.foreign policy on LGBTQ+ has not only advanced the global process of affirmative action for LGBTQ+ but has also faced questions and resistance from other countries and regions around the world.How the U.S.seeks a balance between promoting its own values and respecting the sovereignty of other countries is a major challenge to its sexual minority foreign policy.This article provides an in-depth study of the U.S.LGBTQ+ movement and the AntiLGBTQ+ movement.Drawing on the political process theory of social movement theory,this paper analyzes the political opportunity structure,movement organization,movement strategy,media agenda setting and movement discourse of the two movements.On this basis,the paper further analyzes and explains the far-reaching impact of the U.S.LGBTQ+movement on American politics and society,as well as its influence on the issues related to LGBTQ+ in U.S.foreign policy.The core argument of this paper is that the structure of political opportunities and the effective organizational mobilization and strategic choices of the U.S.LGBTQ+ movement have been important influencing factors in the development and growth of the U.S.LGBTQ+ movement.Over the decades,the LGBTQ+ movement in the United States has not only changed the political landscape but also profoundly influenced the culture of American society.The legal and policy reforms promoted by the LGBTQ+ movement have resulted in unprecedented protection of the rights of LGBTQ+ and have made them an integral part of American society.As a whole,the U.S.LGBTQ+ rights movement has had a profound impact on U.S.politics and society and has generated meaningful discussion around the globe.Taking the United States as an example,this article analyses the emergence and development of this movement and provides important lessons for the study of related movements in other countries and regions. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | LGBTQ+, Social Movements, Political Process Theory, U.S.Politics, Political Polarization, Culture War, Identity Politics | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
